Weird wheel
vwvic - July 7th, 2010 at 10:52 PM

I spotted this wheel on the front of a house when I was going for a walk the other day.I've never seen one like this before ,it has the wide five stud pattern so it must be off some sort of early vw.
Does anyone know what it's off?

There are more cars in the world than VW.
What about Ford Prefect?

pod - July 7th, 2010 at 11:54 PM

thats what i was thinking too Andy ,or the ford pilot,48-215 and fj holdens had a rim that looked like a vw rim too:smilegrin:

vwvic - July 8th, 2010 at 12:42 AM

I was not aware there were any other makes that had the same wide five pattern that vw has

A friend of mine once had a Ford Prefect, and his brother had a Beetle. They once swapped wheels for a weekend!

and the Pop (another version of the same design) don't forget! My all time favourite when rodded. I think I'd even swap my cab for one.

There are a set of freshly powder coated ford prefect wheels at Volkspower

vlad01 - July 8th, 2010 at 08:00 PM

I have a set similar to that on a very old cement mixer. Its not vw and the pattern is slightly smaller like 180mm? or something like that.

Yep, thats what I thought, slightly smaller PCD. Don't fit VW quite right.

swish1 - July 8th, 2010 at 10:03 PM

Could be FX or FJ Holden lots of them around in the old days yes i had a few .

dangerous - July 9th, 2010 at 05:26 AM

48-215 Holden (FX) is 6 3/8" pcd.

Those prefect anglia wheels are " 203.2mm, not 205mm.

empi - July 9th, 2010 at 09:15 AM

Yeah and dont fit.... this is why there are STILL are a set hanging on the wall at Volkspower!!

You picked it well,I haven't seen one of those for a lot of years.

matberry - July 9th, 2010 at 08:08 PM

203.2 is not really 205....I know Jerry with the Kubel ran the Ford Prefect 16" wheels for a while, making them 'fit' with the aid of a file. Until the real VW rims eventually were sourced.

amazeer - July 10th, 2010 at 12:41 AM

I think I posted a similar pic about 5 years or more ago being used for exactly the same purpose. I had no idea back then either. And then another more recently which I belive must be the holden. Doesnt have any holes on the outer.
