FRONT Ball joint 69 beetle Shocks ???

Do 69 semi auto beetles have different front shocks to a manual???
The ones i just got dont seem to have the same top as the ones i removed
,the new ones have no place for the top rubbers/ washers and have very little thread ???

Sounds to me like you're missing the upper mounting kit... includes the threaded part, bump stop, rubbers, plate and nut.

No they are monroe wylie,they are NOS.
I got them from evil bay.
Anyone want to swap for a good used set that will fit my 69 ??? cheers shane.

Why swap... why not just buy the upper mounting kits and use what you've got ???
Most VW shops should have 'em, and they're pretty cheap... cost I think $21 each when I got some from Mick's pretty recently.

Yes,
I also have a set of Australian made shocks ...
I bought the VW rubbers for the top of the shocks but they don't fit without the metal shaft piece which I don't have..
and I don't know if the metal piece will screw into My shocks...
I ended up using some rubbers and metal washers as used on mitsubishi shock absorbers..I had
plus I used the VW bump rubber..
can't remember how I fitted it...??
and I've used shorter shocks as the front is lowered..
I don't know what people used when they just fitted Monroe or other Aust made shocks.. on a ball joint beetle???

Some BJ Beetle shocks don't require the upper mounting kits (eg KYB GR-2)
OEM style BJ Beetle shocks do require them (eg Bilstein or BOGE).
I've seen Monroe's in both styles.
If they are truly the right part for a BJ Beetle, then 99% certain you just need the upper mounting kit.

Yes they do,i will try and get a photo but my daughter has taken the camera to queensland

Hi
I bought the large bump stop rubbers a few years ago...
they were very expensive and hard to find ...
but I have never ever seen the metal extension piece...
the flat smaller rubbers are used on Mitsubishi /japanese shocks.. maybe years ago... [I never throw any thing away]
I also have a new pair of Monroe oil shocks made to fit the extension piece... no rubbers come with the shocks...
the shocks only have about 20mm of thread.... lol
I have shorter shocks on now and are using the bump stop rubbers with {I think] some PVC hose?? inside the rubber to stop it moving as the hole in the
bump rubbers is very large..
I've never seen the extension piece...
maybe all thrown away???
wasn't on My car...
