Kombi Registration Advice
Ragerty - July 27th, 2010 at 12:49 PM

A mate of mine, in Geelong, has just registered his kombi but Vic roads would only register it for 2 people (as the VIN plate states) but has four factory fitted seat belts.

They said he need to obtain an engineers report before they will register it as to carry four people.

On the contrary, my DC was registered by Vic roads as a 6 seater.

The second issue is the fitting of child seats, they said he needs to install some kind of bar?

Can anyone provide any information on the above issues?

Thanks in Advance

yep he's right the plate is what they go on (removed by barls due to illegal nature). as for children there is a approved bar that goes across the back the seat belts cannot go straight down as there would be no way to stop the seats going forward hench the bar sip:

greedy what you just suggested is illegal and will not be mentioned on this site.

There is no option other than a phone calls to VASS registered engineers as listed on the Vicroads website, and phone calls to registered child restraint fitting centres.

I don't have to ask anyone if "Near enough is good enough" when thinking about a baby or toddlers safety.

I am a qualified child restraint fitter, and for that reason I will not give advice on specific requirements for vehicles publicly.

Yeah, he had a chat with Vic Roads and has been given some information but he wasn't exactly sure...and to be honest..I'm not either...we're Poms ya see ....still learning the aussie ways :tu:

Your advice is helpful and I have passed it on to him.
