Hi All,
I have a 2007 (MY08 upgrade) Passat wagon 125TDi. The original new vehicle warranty is about to expire and as I am intending the keep the car for at
least 2 more years, I am considering buying the $1600.00 VW new Vehicle Extended warranty plan. (Supplied by Allianz Insurance via VW) Do you think
it is worth it?
Two thoughts -- --
1) a couple of years ago I did a demo job in Beverly Hills CA. The lot was right on the Country Club there. We were completely tearing down a really
cool house. I asked the super what was the deal. Seemed the guy had bought the property for $17 Million and was goning to build a new house worth $35
Million. I went GEEEEZZZ, what does this guy do? The super says, He has has the franchise to sell the extended warantees to Ford dealers in the
Western US. Draw your own conclusions.
2) I was thinking about buying a new Diesel Jetta with a manual transmission last year. I have a friend that is a VW mechanic, and I asked what he
thought -- he says " I would be looking into a Extended warranty if I were you." So I bought a Camry.
Here in the states, those warrantees come with a 100% markup for the dealers. So if they have a list price of $1600, it is only costing them $800. So
if you really feel you need one, Whip out your wheeling-Dealing attitude and see how close you can get your purchase price down to $800.
I only bought one once and never used it, will never buy one again.

yup as lee says it all in the fine print
they don't cover anything that could break down or it was your fault
have you had much trouble with the car??
I believe you can get this cheaper
it was a topic on the VW Watercooled site
shop around some dealers will sell it cheaper
