Get a Staffordshire Bull Terrier.... They'll pull you for an hour or so at least everyday.

They are also great with children - despite their abilities of fighting bulls, bears and badgers when the breed was developed they are also known as the nanny dog. They love children and small adults (no not to eat...)

My partner and I are expecting in October and i'm trying to work out how I'll push the pram and walk the dog at the same time...

As the kids grow they'll also be kept fit playig with such an active and strong dog.

Matt

I played hockey for 10 years straight, playing on two teams at the same time (under 15s and 17s ) one year at high school, and uni.

Then I got to third year uni, the workload picked up and I stopped playing.

Now, 4 years later I am about 20kg heavier, quite unfit and just waiting for some warmer weather so I can get on my bike and start recovering some fitness.......

Adam_C - July 17th, 2003 at 03:14 PM

I do Outdoor Education every Thursday (during school term) which usually entails either mountain bike riding, hiking, swimming, or a combination of these. On Fridays we play 3/4 hour of flat-out soccer with the kids followed by laps in the pool for a further 3/4 hour.

Also through work, I usually get to go hiking three times a year, which would amount to maybe 80-100 kms per year.

I've just finished a 4-day, 32 km hike with the Scouts, and I will be programming lots more of these in now that I am 'the' Scout Leader. :thumb We also go caving, canoeing, rock-climbing, abseiling and bike riding. :D

I've generally found that work is enough to keep me fit, but between Scouts and work combined, I'm sure I won't have any difficulty! :bounce

Matt acyually I have 2 staffies and I now what ya mean about energy levels. But Ive become lazy as we have a park accross the road from my house I usually take a bat and ball and play fetch with them for 15-25min is usually enough flat out running for them to beg to go home. Sometimes when they have had enough they take the ball and just go home.

This week though we have been organized and packed little Hermione in the pram and walked for 45min with the dogs of course. Find this very good as the boss and I actually talk to each other on these walks (not that we don't talk its just better conversations) you no I fill her in on whats happening here.

Cheers Nige:thumb

Bizarre - July 17th, 2003 at 04:21 PM

yeah - took up soccer again a couple of years ago when i hit 40.

Play winter and summer

Can now last 2 45min halves with out coughing up a liver or 4!

A lot fitter now than before - that is for sure!!

J&SBlue - July 17th, 2003 at 04:38 PM

It was always easy to stay fit when I was younger and single. Then you get married and it all starts to go down hill from there. Well I decided to do something about it about 7 years ago ....lost about 15 kilos and got fit again. When I was younger I used to play Basketball 3 or 4 times a week. I now jog a few days a week and play Basketball in a veterans league (over 35s) once a week.
Winter makes it harder to get out and do things. However, in a moment of madness I agreed to go hiking this weekend in the Royal National Park....oh, what have I done !!

Seems to be a close relationship between owning a VW and playing soccer the world game.
I use to play soccer in pommy land when I was a kid would have played hear but back then it wasn't the thing to do in my neighbourhood anyway.
Wonder if there is the same relationship with say owning a holden and playing Aussie rules.

Just a thought Nige

jakriz - July 17th, 2003 at 06:57 PM

I run about 5-6 k in the morning & ride my mountain bike for about 20k in the evening home from work, I usually do about 2 hours on the bike per day in daylight savings though. I only race selected state series races since I now have 2 kids & I had to give up soccer this year as I had to travel to sydney as I was playing for Liverpool Ugal in the State League & I live up on the Central Coast, Fiona said that I had to give up something if I wanted to race the car as well. Very selfish I thought..................

regards
Jak

crazyfiggi - July 17th, 2003 at 07:07 PM

SKEWtYpe3 - July 17th, 2003 at 09:53 PM

:bounce

Dasdubber - July 17th, 2003 at 10:05 PM

Surfing for me is usually enough. Although having a dud knee and subsequent arthroscopy has resulted in a few extra kg's!! Touch footy before the knee blew up and swimming a couple nights a week.

I think you take the cake so to speak Jak...that is a lot of exercise!

whatnow - July 17th, 2003 at 11:18 PM

i think everyone here needs to take up my favoried exersize program (well if possible....) lots and lots of protracted nookie (with a fair bit of vigor thrown in). work on the heart, breathing and muscle tone, cleans the pores, helps keep that prostrate healthy for all you males... all with a smile... seriously

Craig Torrens - July 17th, 2003 at 11:35 PM

I drink beer, then more beer, then some more. Keeps me fit, for what I'm not sure:D

:beer:beer

The_Bronze. - July 18th, 2003 at 12:13 AM

I compete actively in nookie and am current bedroom champion five years running.

In my younger days before nookie I was heavily into martial arts, particulary Shotokan (Traditional) Karate. Not much good for fighting but great for fitness. Three times a week, region, state and national championships. Cam second in Oz for a couple of years in the mens open.

Anyhow - same ole excuse: blew the knee out ending my time in the Army which was good fitness as well mind you. Now I work (and nook) which keeps the weight down but dosent do any cardio so i go to the Gym now and them in the mornings. Want to start walking but the afternoons are far too dark and the kids too slow.

The bat and ball for the dog sounds a great idea - never seen / thought of that.

Oasis - July 18th, 2003 at 12:53 AM

Go Craig... keep the fluids up:beer:beer:beer
That's my current sport of choice

Spook - July 18th, 2003 at 02:57 AM

I do a sit up every morning to get out of bed & that's about it.

With just the right amount of alcohol & neglect, you to can have a body like mine.

But it takes years to get it just right......

kOMBI KARMA - July 18th, 2003 at 06:53 AM

I have a very active job, 8.5 hr days of just racing around , get home and im too stuffed to do much at all , on my days off I like to try to do something, either a swim or a walk, I would LOVE to play womens soccer but at xmas I broke my foot and its never been the same, I cant kick a ball!!!
I almost always crank the music loud and dance when Im doing the house work, I guess thats being active too.
Weekends away usualy involve a hike in the bush and some climbing perhaps, unfortunately they dont come around quick enough.
Im also a girl guides leader and any activitiy involving young girls is hypo, I can keep up to them so I musnt be too bad on the level of fitness. Thats about the best I can do for this stage in life.
Ree

Brad - July 18th, 2003 at 07:43 AM

I do nothing and am a big fat slob. I like to sit around and dream about pushing bogged buggies and baja's out of the mud. Evere since all my mates started spending heaps on them though they have stopped getting stuck as much.

The closest I get to a 6 pack is buying VB at the local bottle shop and my gym sessions consist of moving 275mg weights up and down.

Shani - July 18th, 2003 at 08:01 AM

We used to be into Hiking, Mountain Bike riding, Caving, Rock climbing etc etc....
Then we had kids and for the last 7 years or so we've been waiting for them to get old enough to take.
We're there now, youngest is 3 and could just about manage to go on some short walks. Problem now is we have to find the time to go do it! Every weekend is spent working on VWs and getting set up for Valla.........

KruizinKombi - July 18th, 2003 at 09:48 AM

Brad, you must have lighter beer up there, I'm sure our cans weigh closer to 375 grams :P

Starbug - July 18th, 2003 at 09:55 AM

I usually rollerblade 5ks or so up riverside drive about 3 times a week (and 10 ks on sunday) and go swimming 2-3 times a week for 1-2ks.

But its winter now, its cold and windy down at riverside, the pool is closed till september, and ive got so much work and study to do i dont know if i will be able to get fit again till november! i feel fat and lazy. EEEUGH!
