Tradie gutter-mount roof racks on a beetle?
patbot - August 19th, 2010 at 03:57 PM

Has anyone ever used tradesman style roofracks such as the one pictured below on a beetle? I was wondering how secure the bar style racks are on top of a beetle and whether there would be any crosswind/updraft issues if a surfboard was mounted on top - potentially resulting in either the board or the racks being ripped off?
Cheers!

i used 1 on my baja once, It was an old one but it did the trick, i only used it to tie a fishing rod to but it was solid.

Jeff Walsh (AKA Beetlebugjeff) is who you need to talk to. he is a builder and uses his bug as a daily driver and work car. im not sure if his are rhino racks but they are gutter mount.

Yeah Patbot, I do have Rhinoracks on my bug.
I often carry timber, doors etc. on them, and last weekend took a steel archbar from Port Macquarie to Newcastle on them. They seem heaps strong - I have had them for 4 or 5 years.
They are not the square ones in the photo though, they are the 'aerodynamic' ones.

I used them with no dramas.
