Question re Melburg Luft
Stanley - August 31st, 2010 at 12:38 PM

Read a post recently about Melburg Luft, which ended up in a sh#t fight from memory. Anyway, i'll come out of the closet and say I really enjoy the rat and rod scene so thought i'd have a look. However found a couple of things preventing me from doing this.

1. You can't get on unless you have a username/password. Sent an email to the admin but got a return saying the inbox was full.

2. From the previous post it may very well be invite only.

My question. Why stop people from looking? I can see why you may want to stop some peole from posting but surely there are ways to do that without stopping everyone from looking and admiring.

This post is not meant to sh#t stir but a genuine question.

It's a private club/forum. I guess they can do what they want. You can't view images on this forum without being a member either.

wolfgang54 - August 31st, 2010 at 06:21 PM

i too tried to register no luck.
sent off a friendly email no reply.

newghia - August 31st, 2010 at 06:22 PM

its not a private club,
there are many users on here that are members on the luft as well,
they have just stopped taking new members for the time being to keep things cruisy & happy,
they are a great bunch of people, who are seriously into their VW's,
i dont post or go on it everyday either,
the post issue on here recently does not happen on the luft ..........

don't agree, if they are soooo friendly they would respond to emails instead of letting people get frustrated trying to register.... or have a friendly auto reply

Hutcho - August 31st, 2010 at 08:06 PM

There's a zillion forums around, guys. Why would you want to join one that isn't interested in chatting to any more Aussie VW lovers?
If you're interested at looking at rat VW's look here. 224,000 pics of pure unblocked VW rat pics!!!

Cheers
Steve

Hi, I understand your frustration, it took me a while to get into it too. I'm not a spokesman for that forum so wont try to be.

All I can suggest is that you keep trying if you think its something you'd like.

Kris.

Stanley - September 1st, 2010 at 09:36 AM

I get all these points and can understand they might not want baja's cruising with them. (I don't have a baja by the way)

I'm in Qld and I think it's safe to say I won't be able to boost their cruising numbers but just wouldn't mind being able to have a look at the cars. Block me from posting if that's how they want it but can't see the problem in viewing. How about a social membership?

baywindowbandit - September 3rd, 2010 at 07:19 PM

I had the same problem, can't register unless you get an invite code from there Admin, after you have met a member that thinks you'll pass muster, who has then asked the admin if it's ok to invite someone.

I would love to join the forum so that I can check out there cars, but it all seems to hard. I understand why they are doing it, "this way we only get 20 posts per day from people we know and respect, not 200 posts about crap that no one cares about".

If someone is a member that you know and get on with, ask them for an invite code, and get me one while you're at it. :D

Don't despair guys they are a good bunch. Some cool cars too as I have sold most of mine to fellow lufters. Just patience I guess.

If know one cares, this thread wouldn't exist.

what they are looking to try and achieve is a word of mouth system to register,
the reason for is it is to keep keyboard bandits and postal spammers and other internet junk out (like porn, viagra ads etc etc)
I've run a forum for another make of car before and know what its like to try and monitor and stay on top of and its really a full time job
so these guys are trying to work around that with a new registration system (and they are all part time volunteers)

so if you head to a local vw event and chat to anyone that has a luft sticker or tee on them or their car, chances are they will be able to refer you or get you a code

it's another way of making sure its all about vw heads that are actively involved in their local scene etc too

by no means are they trying to be elitists... just trying to control the forum to members not interweb junk....

hope thats some help

cheers ben

and before everyone jumps on the bandwagon that they are only into ratty low cars , thats bull too...
early, late, shiney, matt, ratty whatever - there are gallieries and members for all sorts, years, models etc...

I just want to view the forum. I'm not a keyboard bandit or postal spammer. I just want to look at pics of volksies
I'm beginning to think though it might be easier to join the Freemasons.

type3disease - September 24th, 2010 at 11:20 AM

Hey Stanley

great looking car in ya avatar pic... if my memory serves me Karalee is only like 30min from Brisbane CBD yeah...?
so getting to a local event wouldn't be that hard - ask around and have a chat to Dibba, Nug, or Leroy or anyone else that has a luft shirt/sticker

the idea is you're into vw's - you have enough communication skills to go chat to someone - and go from there...! the vw's are what bring us all together to an event to meet new people who share an interest...
the way of the world is the internet allows us to see the world, but not leave the house...

I believe most forums you do have to be a member or sign in to see pics, luft avd, dsk, kk all the same...! so you do need to be a member not a lurker
and again the idea is to get involved... so if you do get on - just say hi on the new member thread, show a pic of your car or project in the rides section
no one is there to judge - sure some members are into early low ratty things, others into bajas, and even some watercoolers so they all might banter to each other and take the piss - but its all in good fun... you'll get it once you know the people behind the keyboards - at the end of the day they are all vw enthusiasts...

again hoping to help not hinder and shed some light onto the he said she said they did debate...!
I am a member not an admin of the site

PS: I think the email address may also be overloaded with viagra/porn/free money ads - hence why its full
I used to get 800 emails a day to filter thru on the forum I ran - so you can imagine the time alone in that...
and yes there are better computer geeks out there and better filter systems theses days too - so slowly this will all improve i'm sure
- so really the best way is to just say g'day to someone...

cheers ben

Phil74Camper - September 24th, 2010 at 11:53 AM

That description fits EVERY VW club and EVERY VW forum, surely.

What does MelbLuft do that THIS forum doesn't? Was it set up because someone was unhappy here?

squizy - September 24th, 2010 at 01:03 PM

Luft is a club. AVD is a forum.

Pollywaffle - September 24th, 2010 at 01:08 PM

Big thanks to type3disease and squizy for clearing that up! I understand now.

type3disease - September 24th, 2010 at 01:36 PM

luft is definately not a club

a club has:
a president
a secretary
etc
a commitee
an agm
general meetings
a constitution
and is registered at small business victoria

vassy66T1 - September 24th, 2010 at 04:39 PM

In the illustrious words of Groucho Marx

“Please accept my resignation. I don't want to belong to any club that will accept me as a member”

:)

And maybe to add another Groucho quote:
“The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing. If you can fake that, you've got it made.”

Exclusivity is not my bag baby ... but if it spins your dial ... great

wolfgang54 - September 24th, 2010 at 04:54 PM

what a big wank!!!!!!!!!!!

groucho was also a wise man

this is "the" site as it is friendly and not a site for someone's closest 600 friends lol

Stanley - September 24th, 2010 at 08:29 PM

I don't want to join a club I just want to look at a volksy forum on stuff that I have an interest in

Why is it so hard?

AUSSIE_MICK - September 25th, 2010 at 06:54 AM

I agree with Stanley just open the blinds and let us have a look inside.

True, true. Just trying to help differentiate a little. I think you said it best in your other post.
