just wondering if anyone has the weight figures for a late fasty/square?
just interested in how they compare to a beetle. I've heard figures round the 1100kg mark for them. Is this true?
i was thinking 950 to 1000 but might be up to 1100 they are beefy
so yeah a square could easy be 1100
mmm, interesting. I wonder how heavy troy's fasty is?
put it this way 6 guys to lift a bear Type 3 shell
2 guys to lift a Type 1 bear shell
in otherwords BLOODY heavy
i just checked my rego papers, 69 squareback 940. (thats if they weighed it)
yeah, but that's not a real figure. My beetle was spose to weigh 780kg stock and I guarantee it was never that light. My buggy with a subaru engine and a 100kg body and stuff is an honest 900kg without me in it but ready to drive. I know that's a little heavy for a buggy but that's reality.
1035 Kg for the late squre
960 Kg for the notch
fasty ?? f**ked if I know? 980?
ok looked on the net and my wheels road test specs of the type 3. 860Kg? they recon. For both notch and fasty.
I am confused coz the user manual states as the previous post.
mate of mine used to own a late fasty and reckoned it was heavier than his square. more metal in the back.
what!? they have less metal and less glass and less one deck type rear seat.
dunno, but he had a tle fasty (ex tle by then) and a stock square, both late model. he reckoned the fasty was a nicer car, but it was noticably heavier. He put it down to more metal in the rear pillars and such.
how was it noticeable?
both cars had same motors, interior etc, but the fasty didn't go as hard. both were well tuned and looked after. I know you're gonna say, the square
had a lower 1st gear, and that's true, but even still he reckoned the fasty was heavier. More metal and heavier construction in the fasty he said.
Which adds up with peops comments about squares warping with non-aircooled conversions unless they are well braced.
BTW, he called his square, "the slug"
I had a TLE fasty and it accelerated much faster than my square but it did have a slower top end.
Only reason the squares are less rigid is coz of the design of the high roof area at the back and no firewall sort of thing like the notch and fasty.
http://www.vwtypethree.com/manuals/371/page65.html late
model. 71

early model. 67
Very interesting.
Troy is yet to put his car on the scales but with all the extra engine mounts bracing, turbo, intercooler, Dry sump tank, manifolds, oil coolers and extra gearbox mounts plus all that is inside the car he roughly figures the car to weigh close to if not heavier than 1200kg easy. So running 13.66@ 102mph or something to that degree with only 168HP atw aint bad so considering it now has just over 230hp atw should be interesting to see the difference in times.
see that's what I thought.

sorry, I know this is an old thread.
does anyone have some NSW rego papers with the weight recorded on em for a late square?
might be hatching an evil plan...
