Hi I'm not sure if this is the area but we have a registered 1974 1600 L Superbug we would like to get rid of but it has very low compression on one cylinder and quite a bad oil leak, engine basically needs reconditioning I think. The other issue is there is rust coming out in quite a few body seams and the door bottoms. We have considered spending a bit on it to keep it going but dont have the thousands needed to cure all these woes and have no idea what its worth in this condition which would help with the above decision. The rest of the car is mechanically sound, any help with an approximate value greatly appreciated.
G'day & welcome
It depends where you live to a large extent
No one is going to travel to Hermannsburg for a rusting L
Are the panels straight?
Bumbers straight and original rust free German ones??
Steering box has no play??
Uncracked dash??
Sadly, as much as I reckon L's are the best, it is probably worth more in parts
For what it is worth my mate traveled from Sydney to Newcastle to pay $1200 for a 1975 L (rack & pinion) and drove it home
Motor OK, not a lot of rust - minimal, good dash, fair interior
A good project for his son as a first car
If he doesnt want it I would buy it off him for the parts
So...........
Hi 'dog.
You have not said where you are.
If your state requires a rego inspection on ownership change over, then it's worth very little, if not it's worth a bit more.
I would not pay more than a few hundred dollars for it, regardless of the above.
Either part it out with a lot of hassles or rid yourself of it for the cost of the annual registration of another vehicle, or your water rates, or a
weekend away or whatever.
Hi and thanks for the advice, that pretty much confirms what I was thinking, we are in Newcastle NSW. Cheers.
I might have a mate interested... i'll send him a message and update. ![]()
