Hi Lee
I use Shannons, they do insure modified cars, also try NRMA.

Hi Lee,
NRMA is ok with stock beetles with no mods declared.
Also depends on what mods you have.
Ron
I agree with Steve Shannons is the way to go. I used to be with RACQ bit they kept reducing the agreed value to the point where it wasn't worth
insuring. Shannons went for an agreed value i was happy with and the price was almost $100 less as well. no complaints there
shannons have been good to me. when i first went to them, i was under 25 with a modified car, they were the only people who would insure me. plus
thier price was still good compaired to what the others would have charged me for an unmodified car. plus the agreed value and salvage rights if you
right it off.
at the end of the phonecall when i first got the car insured the guy asked "what plans do you have to the future..." then said "add a
set of delorto's, lower the back a little and add a cambercompensator. thats what i did to my car and it was great on the dirt" that and boosting me to full no-claim bonus because it was 2 days before
christmas has made me a permant customer of thiers.

Shannons hands down.
I was with Shannons. Can anyone recommend an insurer that specialises in older vehicles used for business purposes? If you have a business vehicle insured with Shannons - caveat emptor.
Info on Shannons much appreciated....
How is the agreed figure --- agreed on ??
I would like to insure My 68 Auto Beetle for around $8000... apart from the front being lowered, it will be stock standard ..
I think I would die if any thing happened to it.... part of My soul went into that car..
I will give shannons a ring...
Does the NRMA have a classic car insurance or just the standard one....??
We'd only just bought mine when we rang Shannons and they asked what we paid for it and that was all. I'm not sure how it works with a car you've had for a while and done some work on. But they were very helpful, everywhere else I tried either refused outright or were obstructive. Usually refused to insure her cause she's modified.
I have just recently moved my kombies insurance from RACQ to Shannons.
RACQ would only insure my Twin Cab for $2,800 So I called Shannons and they
insured it for $6,000 without looking at it. They told me to send them pictures and they would insure it for an agreed value. After sending photos of
the vehicle they increased my an insurance to an agreed value of $10,000
Go Shannons
Shannons
I will be different and give Shannons the big thumbs down.
They ONLY insure cars in a LOCKED garage.
I am sure you guys always do that
It doesnt help us with modified or stock dubs that spend there life on the street or even parked in my yard but not behind locked doors.
There buisness - so no problems, just not as perfect as i feel they are being made out to be.
I guess by keeping street cars out of there books it keeps the premiums down for others
Youse can all thank me later for keeping you premiums down
NRMA has Vintage, Veteran & Classic Insurance, but the conditions are:
it's for hobby/recreational purposes
not use on a daily basis
can only do 8000km during the term of the policy
not for business purposes
so it prob doesn't apply to most of our dubs
I'm with NRMA, agreed value is 5k, pay $300 annual premium and I have to park on the street so that works for me.
Ron
Glad I don't park my ute on the street:jesus
Just a word of warning.
I am an Insurance Investigator.
If you insure your vehicle with any company check the policy FIRST.
If your vehicle is modified, the insurance company might insure it but when it comes to paying a claim they can demand to see that the vehicle
complies with the Dept of Motor Vehicles, I.E. if it is reged with a 1600 and you have a 1835 with twin carbs your insurance is null and void,
If you have lowered the vehicle and havent had it checked and O.K.ed by Dept of Transport , they can refuse payment if you make a claim.
Here in S.A. you can get agreed policy's with a number of insurance companies , and they will insure your lowered 2.5 litre injected oval with
BRMs.
You have a smash and the assessor sees it has modifications, he then notifies the insurance company who checks if they are listed on your policy. If
they are they then check with Motor Reg to see if the front beam has been checked (adjusters have to be checked by an authorised engineer)
They also check that the engine is allowed , the brakes have been allowed.
The point I am trying to make is the insurance companies are in it to make money and look for ways they can get out of paying the claim.
READ your policy and dont take the word of the insurance salesman, he is usually on a commission basis and gets paid to sign you up.
He doesnt care what happens afterwards.
Hope I havent spoilt your day.
Cheers
Dave
:jesus:jesus
So in order to keep the premium down
get a lock up garage and insure with shannon
or
insure with someone else and don't mod your car... :P
...and specify if you want salvage rights (any company) because it doesn't happen automatically.
Blue74L - I got the feeling Shannons are most interested in show cars/museum pieces, not daily drivers. Restrictive as to how many kms are travelled,
not interested in commercial vehicles being used for their intended purpose.
Interestingly, I contacted the Historic Commercial Vehicle Club (WA) to see if any of their members could advise re insurance for a vehicle used for
business purposes. Guess what? They are all show vehicles with faux signage.
Go the Kombi! Still going strong!
im with shannons for my 65 kombi and its not garaged and its weekly use. they didnt say anything about a garage to me, i just had limited k's per year that i drive it.
what the salesman tells you and what is actually in your policy can be two differant things.
Cheers
Dave

Amen to that Dave. Not only what the salesman tells you and what is actually in your policy can be two differant things. Shannons own brochure
suggests they insure business vehicles! When I pointed this out to the salesperson they told me the brochure was wrong, pity if you shop for info from
brochures.
Like I said, caveat emptor, and yes, insurance companies will do all in their power not to pay a claim.

Well now I get too see how good Shannons really are. Belle and I got badly Rear Ended last night on the way home from work, her rear bumper and tail
took most of the damage and it looks like it didn't touch the engine, Exhaust is a mess though.
Will keep you posted....
Bad luck and sad to hear Shani
Hope all goes well...
