I was there many years ago n did stay at the Angaston pub while in the barossa..

I went to a cellar door in mclaren vale area from memory that the tasting area was in the basement area n I would like to know of anyone knows which winery it is??
any help or tips for our trip will be muchly appreciated

If your heading to Harndorf, drop into Shaw and Smith winery (Their Pinot Noir is fantastic!), and Bird in Hand. Both have some nice cellar doors.

In McLaren vale, for pure range you cant go past D'arenberg, free tasting here too, start at the top, work your way down, they do have some great reds on the list, and i am a fan of some of their sticky's too. As for the winery your thinking of with a tasting room in the cellar, i don't recall it off the top of my head.

Maybe i need to get back down to the wine regions, its been a while....

personally i liked grant burge down there but thats me. if your heading near handorf try grumpies for lunch if its still there, it was a little brew pub and pizza place.

I went to a Grant Burge tasting on Monday, I do love their wines, but have never been to their cellar door. They released the 05 Meschach Monday, stellar wine, really is. Their "Unknown Age" liqueur Muscat is orgasmic, would kill for a few bottles of that!

Illiterate. two ells.

Anyway, if you want to do a wine region trip you are in the wrong area, head to the Hunter Valley, you'll probably never go home.

Mate,
Don't spend too much time in Hahndorf, it's a bit plastic IMO.
McLaren Vale is sensational, as are the Barossa and Clare Valleys. If you stay somewhere near Tanunda everything is less than 20 minutes away.
Biggest thing to remember is to taste and SPIT!!!!!
If you swallow your tastings you lose the sensitivity on your taste buds and as well as losing your license..Haha

I like tasting the whites before lunch and the reds after lunch.
Best way to spend a day I can think of.

McLaren Vale - Settlement Wines. Go for lunch. Wood fired oven pizzas. The mushroom one is incredible and goes down well with there wines.
