looking at double stacking some cars. primary use is for storage, but occasional use for maintenance.


What are the pros and cons of Storage of cars on 2 and 4 posts?
Suspension issues etc?

I'm sure they both have pros and cons, but I prefer two posters as they allow you to move around unhindered under the vehicle, remove wheels, and so on. But thats just my opinion, I'm sure others will have different views.

Used the 2 and 4 post hoists while working at Vic Terry Automotive in burleigh.

the accessibility on the 2 post is excellent as opposed to the 4 post and ramp, + it allows the car to be driven and wheels to be played with when elevated (including checks for movement in suspension to pinpoint dud balljoints and link pins. Can not do that with the ramp. The ramp was only limited to engine and gearbox work with generic vehicles, to be honest we avoided using it and only used it to detail/degrease engine bays or for desperate times when the rest of the workshop was full for oil changes etc.

The 2 post didn't cause any issues with stress on any chassis' as the load is well distributed on the 4 large round rubber mounts. Just got to make sure each is secure and mounted right, lift a foot off the ground, then double check and go for it.

At the end of the day we locked the customer's cars in the shed and double stacked using the 2 post. provided plenty of clearance with 2 4wd's stacked upon each other.

Pretty much the 2 post allowed access to everything, unless ur panel beating the chassis or the channels near which the rubber mounts sit.

4 post with 2 sliding jacks on the inner rails of the ramp/platform is the ultimate. up goes the houist then position the sliding jacks an you can have all 4 wheels of the deck . Mitchell

thanks, i think i am going for the 4 post as it is for storage 99% and i can always use jacks or my trolley jack on the 4 poster for wheels off etc.

I have the two poster and its great for storage, just make sure you cover the bottom car incase of upper car having oil leaks, my only grief with my two poster is that I wish i had of got hold of a two poster without the protruding hump joining both posts as its a pain with low cars. Oh and Mr Waltermitty (Mitchell) everytime I go to read one of your posts, I get distracted for some strange reason??? ha just love it errr them cheers Frank

So where did you fellas get these hoists? approximate $ ?

I bought my two post from radium, i looked around and found they offered the best deal, with a drum of hydraulic oil it came to $3000, i installed it myself and found the two post offered the best compromise for my application

My hoist (2 post) came from Tufflift. Clive broad is a car man, and was very helpful, and helped reduce the freight cost by arranging for me to pick up the hoist at the truck depot, saving about $300. I couldn't live without my hoist now.
