What sort of km's does everyone do?
Since Easter I covered over +30,000 - not on daily runs either, 500km trips at a time! 2500km every 2nd weekend. One week I did Syd-Melb-Syd in 40
hours.
Anyone top that? For the k's the breakdowns have been justifiable.
We don't do that many km, but the Beetle does every part of any every day driving. Kids to kindergarten, shopping etc. The bus is the special once a
month driver now.
In 5 years and 50.000km in the Beetle there has not been a single breakdown, and only a replacement starter motor, front brake pads, 1 wheel bearing,
1 CV joint and oil cooler seals. Other than that just regular servicing.
Not bad for a 40 year old car.
I don't do much...
maybe 150kms a month...
mostly just around town... when I haven't gotten it pulled apart
LEE
earlier mid year I drove my bus from Melbourne to sunshine coast towing my beach buggy on a tandem trailer then back to Melb then back to sunny towing
my box trailer then back to melb then to sunny n back to melbs..
over a three week period..
crazy but true
I drive mine all the time - mostly only trips around town though, although at the moment I am working in Newcastle, so most weekends I do the trip
back and forth - nearly 250km each way. I think it is due to turn over 574,000 km on the way home tomorrow night.
Interestingly, as a builder, it has probably done about 250,000 km towing a trailer, a lot of time it has been my toolbox trailer which weighs about
750kgs. It has also done a lot of hard yards, gravel roads & bush. It is well used.
Probably only a few hundred kms per month - mostly on weekends.
I do run longer hauls though for things like Valla, DOTVW, etc.
Its all about the enjoyment for me.
Kris
probably about 150ish kms a week. Used daily. Wish I didn't have to drive it everyday after spending so much $$$ on it but I really can't afford
another car to keep and maintain and register im afraid
Not mine, but Nil's family pool business have a T25 air-cooled van that regularly ran up 100,000klms a year for quite a number of years
about 15,000 kms a year
Like a few above, not heaps - but every day
h, oh I know crazy.
jeff, respect.
When I wrote 'breakdowns' it should have said 'road side maintenance'; front wheel bearing, 2 alternator belts after replacing the type4 with a VN
dunnydoor unit and a poorly connecting battery terminal that resulted in no headlights on the hwy.
The only real breakdown (excluding dead bus alt.) was the car telling me to stop being naughty - drove it just below the rev limiter for 60 sec - it
got a bit warm at 5500rpm for 1min and let go of a spark plug lead, then refused to have any power. That was a worrying 30 min while it cooled down, a
panicky 2 min until I discovered the plug lead, and one hell of a relief when the knocking sound was diagnosed a cylinder slap and not the bottom end!
Yeah - I reckon BBJeff would have to be close to #1
and a 1916 twin carb jobbie to boot
:kiss Little flowers daily driver----320 kms per week and loving it over a gravel road. (hope pic works)
in the 5 years that I've had my oval I've done around 30,000klms. I've driven it to as far as Canberra South and as far as Hervey Bay North. Thinking of maybe going on an adventure this xmas in it.
Hey Rose, wait a little longer and follow me up to Darwin, I may need a tow.
My mates 68 bug passed 600,000 miles on it which is more than 1 million KMs about 10 years ago but has been in semi retirement since, no idea what its
done since but not much
The original owner used to do 600miles or more a week travelling up and down the coast for work.
My bug was my only registered car for the first 2 years I owned it so racked up some KMs then but since 2002 its just been a weekend toy and was lucky
to do more than 2000kms a year and most of that was down to valla and a few shows up the coast
between 2000 and october last year I'd only put 52,000kms on it, funny when my other cars do around 30K a year
But since the subi conversion was completed this time last year I've put more KMs on it in the last 12 months than I have in the last 4 years
prior.
Mr Rizzo does some high KMs in his too
I only drive mine on weekends as it's not 100% complete yet. So only a few K's. But the odometer reads about 760,000 miles
let see? hmm I pretty sure mine has done 0 since I bought it. Apart from the trip to get it, I just parked it in the shed and its been there since.
Starting to be pulled apart, just a few bits here and there.
i bought a type 3, drove it from Wollongong to willowbank raceway on friday for drags but it was raining saturday so drove straight home. I was at
Shelllys nightclub by 8pm.
Not that I do it every day but I have driven from Wollongong to Mt Isa the long way via Pt Augusta, Uluru in my kombi (where it broke down) in only a
few days. My honeymoon was 10,000 km in 14 days, but that was in a corolla.
I've only done about 40,000 in 5 years in my Golf, and as a daily driver too. Still, I think it's been getting more regular use now than it had in the 29 years before I owned it.
When I was using my bus for work doing car detailing all over Brisbane i was averaging 1200km a week. I ran my business for 9 years and was basically
going to my uncle's for a service every month.
Since closing up the business I'd be lucky if my bus has done 2000km in the last 3 years since I got it running again.
Still using the original engine it had done just under 500 000km when it died and I rebuilt it and it has done 370 000km since. It dropped a valve so
a quick repair and the k's have been quite mimimual for the few short trips it makes these days.
It has certainly earned it's keep that's for sure......
My single cab is running at around 20,000km per year.
Beautiful
I average about 500+klms per week, that includes 12 years worth of Supersprints as well. Driven to the track, not trailered. My pink slips prove the
k's each year. Owned the car for 19 years so it's quite a lot of use
Funnily enough, I have been trying to win best daily driver at the Nationals for 15 years, but it wasn't until I resprayed it, got rid of all the
stone chips & put a new interior in it to replace the ruined porsche seats from my kids climbing over them to get out & in, that I finally got
a trophy. Go figure!
Jak
There is a guy up near Wellington NSW who purchased a new Double Cab in 1974 and still owns the car as his daily driver with over 1.9million Kms on
it. He also has every receipt and fuel docket with calculations recorded in 7 log books for the vehicle.
The motor has been rebuilt 4 times and he has had 2 rebuilt gearboxes.
Now thats an average of 1000 kms per week for every week over the 36 years, much of it on outback dirt roads.
The car has never been to a panel beater or spray painter but is well covered by stone chips on the front nose.
The guy is a Church Minister with a very wide spread congregation .
The history of the vehicle is a story in itself.

Wow Bill, he ought to write a story for the club magazine - that's pretty close to the world record if not already first.
The 1994 Guinness Book of Records says "The highest recorded mileage for a car was 1,442,044 authenticated miles (2,321,690 km) up to 25 Jan 1993
for a 1963 Volkswagen Beetle owned by Albert Klein of Pasadena, CA." This car had appeared in some US VW magazines in the 1970s and 80s. VW of
America gave him a brand new VW Fox arond 1987 when he passed 1,000,000 miles. I don't know if Al Klein is still alive - he'd be in his 90s now if
so. There was also some controversy in the late 1980s when Tony Levy of the UK disputed the Al Klein Beetle, as his own 1952 VW 'Rattletrap' was
supposed to have over 800,000 miles (and Levy was claiming the world record). This was never settled. Tony levy has since passed away, and there is
still ill feeling and arguments from the new owners of Rattletrap. That VW had been written off earlier but rebuilt from scratch. Thus it was a bit
like 'grandad's axe'. The Samba has hosted arguments from both sides.

The current world record is held by a Volvo P1800, with over 4,186,000 km (2.6 million miles).
my bro had his 67 van restored and put back on the road as a daily 3 or 4 years back. in that time it's been their family hack with 4 small kids for 90% of that time. there's been a few dramas with engines but for the most part it's been pretty good... and they do lots of miles. they live in goulburn and drive it to sydney and back twice a month or more. they've just bought a T4 to give it a bit of a rest.
