g'day everyone. i am looking for somewhere in Brisbane that does fuel tank repairs. i have a fuel tank that has small rust holes in the bottom of it.
i would consider another tank if someone has one in good nick.
it is to suit a 69 beetle.
any good boiler maker should be able to help ya
Replacement is probably the easiest, but I can't help you there, but I recently repaired a tank with POR 15 tank repair kit, time consuming to do it well, but very good products that work.
used the POR15 kit myself too.Didn't have rust holes just rusty insides, worked a treat, bought mine through Vintage Veedub ![]()
I think you can buy new tanks from Classic VW
call custom vee dub
i think they had one a little while back as I was chasing one yeah but I ended up not needing it
The new tanks are thin and pretty crappy, but they don't leak (presumably), I'd go with a good s/h og one myself.
buy new or used the rust sale is a real pain,i had nothing but blocked filters an it just didn't stop
thanks for the help guys. i had heard that new tanks are not the best quality and dont fit very well. i might try find a good quality 2nd hand one.
I just brazed the rust holes up in my tank,
I had mine done several years ago by a bloke in Holland St Northgate. It didn't need welding but he probably does that. Mine just needed a good
clean to get the rust out and he then coated the inside and painted the outside for me. I also have an old tank sitting in the shed. Not sure what
condition it is in becasue it has been there for a while. Whereabouts in Brisbane are you?
Yogie
Yogie - I am in Toowong and if your tank is in good condition and want to get rid of it just let me know.
I will try and get to the shed for you this week and confirm it for you.

Hi Andrew. PM sent.
Yogie
instead of clogging your filters just epoxy an old speaker magnet to the bottom of your tank and it wiill collect the rust for you.
Back in the 90's, we were in the middle of Aus, my mates car developed a fuel leak from the bottom of the tank ( small pin holes) corrosion/rust etc, a local farmer said that he could fix that in 7 minutes, he first got a piece of heavy sand paper and gave the affected area a scratch, then mixed up a small amount of car body filler (BOG) and applied it. We refilled the tank and went on our way. That repair was to get us home, well, that car turned to shit in 2005, but the tank still didn't leak.
I am taking my tank to get overhauled by Fuel Tank and Radiator Service In Holland Street, Northgate tomorrow, i will also be getting a -6 AN fitting welded in as i am running two fuel lines in my car and one will be a return line from the fuel regulator. Wil let you know how it all goes.
Yogie - no PM received
66deluxe - look forward to your feedback
