After travelling around the US for a month, I was increasingly curious as to what the term, "hellaflush" meant and what it entailed. After searching around I discovered that it involved getting the best fitment to a car's wheels as possible, creating a 'flush' look.

I really like the look, and I was wondering whether other people either liked, or disliked the look?

Ps. Those that dislike jap cars may be offended

can you explain a bit more re "the best fitment"? I still don't quite get it...

It's basically trying to get the best possible offset and size (of tyre and wheel) to fit under- or just out of- the guard. The photos explain best, I can't quite describe it.
It started with vw's then went crazy in japan

It looks nice and suits those cars. It looks particularly nice on the MkI Golfs too.

I like the filled out look, but not when the wheel is wider than the tyre

Bit like the German look in the old VW Beetles, I think.

Stretched tryes look awesome. Not game to run too much stretch on mine though.

I've been following this movement and the "Stance" Movement while now, and i love the concepts.

Its all about getting the right "Stance" on the car. Low, nice wheels, OEM or not, getting to all just FIT... Some like the wheel to sit flush with the guard, other like it to tuck rim, others like to poke a lil

A lot of these guys run their cars lower than anyone here on a daily basis, ripping a sump off is no uncommon

From memory, the wheel being wider than the tyre originated in Germany and had something to do with a law change regarding tyre size, so stretching a narrow tyre onto a wide rim was their solution, i could be wrong though.

yeah VIP look originated in japan and I still fail to understand the appeal, most of them look like some fat ass has sat in the car, broke the suspesion and flattened all the tyres

Some of them look pretty cool, but when the wheel combo is poking out of the guard and obviously couldn't have any travel at all without damaging the body then its gone too far. Race cars sit low with fully filled guards and stretched rubber fitment (sometimes) but the suspension still works. I look at speedhunters.com a lot, they often have heaps of coverage on these style cars, as well as anything else interesting!
Depends if you like cars where form follows function or vice versa.

Yeah I agree Owen, I think these cars show a strong stance (pardon the pun) toward the 'form' rather than 'function'.

oh god! tyres stretched like that reminds me of ride on mowers.

Doesn't do anything for me but each to their own. Where the wheels extend out beyond the body it is also illegal here.

Its not illegal to have the tyres out past the body line on a Mk 1 morris cooper s as that was how they were made from the factory but it was changed on the Mk 2 cooper s when they fitted them with flares.

I'd KILL for that Oudi but all I can think of is GUTTER RASH!!!!!

fan of some, hater of lots, neat fitting is fine, but NO gap & 2" outside your guards isnt fitting, nor is the im going to give this 30deg neg camber so i can fit my 11" wide wheels under stock guards- people in japan drive like that too not just park

That BMW is awesome. Love the air brush effect down the side. Wouldn't look too outta place in a pack with a few of the drag beasts I've seen on here, with the luftwaffe emblems on the sides of their bugs.
