Traders on this site
57kombi - July 25th, 2003 at 04:00 PM

Just a thought,,,,
Should traders who advertise items for sale on this site, be identified.
Like they do in the Trading Post.

I dont mean the sponsers.
Could help a few people who dont know who the traders are.

Might also stop the people who are using 2 identities????

Just an idea.

Cheers

no one has any ideas

this has been thrashed around and is boring now

koolkarmakombi - July 27th, 2003 at 06:15 PM

Problem with that is ppl will expect traders to act differently to private sellers. In reality there are all varieties of both.

Im not personally bored by this sort of chat, helps to keep the sharks more honest than if we all didnt give a toss how sellers behaved, how many ID's they have etc.

Maybe we should have to scan the barcodes on our foreheads before we are allowed to look at the site :P

I'm a moderator over at www.performanceforums.com and we decided that people have a right to know if they are buying from a private seller or from a buisiness.

we put a little symbol beneath each user name, this one for a sponsor or advertiser of the forum:
http://board.performanceforums.com/forums/images/bluew/w_d.gif and this one for a recognised trader:
http://board.performanceforums.com/forums/images/bluew/w_tr.gif

it makes things a lot clearer for everyone. so far it has worked very well.

you want some thing you buy it , simple really most dealers sell new stuff ,some guys(like me) find dead VW,s and sell the bits for money yes money thats right stiff shit you dont go to work for free so what does it matter it aint no crime

the difference is people like to know where they are buying things from.
are they buying a part or car cheaply from some guy way out west who just dug one out from under the house somewhere,

or are they buying it from a buisiness who has marked it up by 3 times the private sale price to cover the cost of running a buisiness, but is a buisiness so can be held accounatble for warranty or money issues.

flagging buisiness operators is only an identifier, not a stab at either private sellers or buisinesses!

on PF we had a huge problem with people (buisinesses mainly) that only ever used the for sale section and turned over a mind boggling amount of money off our hard work, as the forums are run at a loss and are run privately as most are. We flag them to encourage them to either pay for advertising (and get privaleges) or offer some form of sponsorship to help cover costs of running the forum. they make a LOT of money from the forums so why shouldnt that give a little back so it can stay around a bit longer.

this aspect doesnt affect private sellers.

If I am buying a part that does not need a warranty, I don't care who I buy it from, I look at the part and the price I am paying.
Different story for something like say a rebuilt starter motor or distributor. I would like to know that if it was a trader if I could have some sort of guarantee. :o

"so what does it matter it aint no crime"

If you have to ask the question you may not understand the answer.........

If you buy and sell bits to make some dosh, good on you for being open and honest about it. Honesty and morals are not universal.

I expect business' to behave differently than private individuals. The laws in this fine continent of our say so too.

Traders have been well known on other forums for dumping crappy stock maskerading as naive private sellers with 'no idea' the stock is crap, when they really do. When this is often done by mail etc it can be easy to be duped by a smooth operator.

Its obvious you have your opinion, and others (inc me) have theirs. Tis obvious that those differ too.

kool karma to you

The reason I started this post was that there are a couple of people on this site who only use the Buying and Selling section.

The regular users get to know who they are, New members might think they are buying from enthusiasts and not people who are only interested in making a buck.

I am not saying this happens but it would be easy for a trader to unload some dodgy stock on the site and the purchaser would have no come backs???

Just a thought as the sponsers are paying good money to advertise and others are getting it for free.

At PF we reguarly check for people that only ever post in the for sales, and remove their access to it if they never post anywhere else. we arent a trading post, if people dont contribute then why bother with them? :)

SAME SHIT DIFFERENT THREAD.

People If you are buying a part or a car or anything from someone on this site, feel free to ask them are you a dealer or do you sell alot of these on here?

If you want the item and it is what you consider to be a fair price then buy it!

To all those others sitting back whinning about people selling things at a profit, GETOVER IT!!!

Thanks, Have a nice day..........:beer
