Does anyone actually still make anything here?
Nikos - July 27th, 2011 at 06:20 AM
Yes, but it's getting harder.
Given the growth in our economy and population, our manufacturing industry is smaller now than it was 50 years ago.
The scary thing is we're in the middle of a mining boom, and our industry is struggling to survive. What will happen when this boom cycle
finishes,....which it will.

Ben386 - July 27th, 2011 at 08:21 AM
It means that retail and manufacturering will suffer here.

whilst buying off shore is good short term, long term all you do is prop the os economies up,whilst ours will go to the shit.People are still not
spending money, dont believe what the goverment might say about a booming economy.Retail is still dead right now.Has been for 12 months or so.
AUSSIE_MICK - July 28th, 2011 at 06:29 AM
I had first hand experience, retail has been dead for the last year. So glad i sold my shop!

IT's happening now. I have just dismissed my two employees and am in the process of downsizing to just me'n the missus.
There is money out there but no one is spending atm.
The upside is I have had more time lately for the toys!

Maybe they are spending, just that with the dollar so good over seas then it is being spent os, and with the dollar the way it is makes our exports
more expensive, can't have it both ways.
