ON THIS DAY TONIGHT
I only saw the end of it... BIG FINES for driving too slow...
BIG fines as usual... $2000 in Queensland
$238 in Victoria similar to NSW
but accelerating from 20 to 80KMH in WA could be classed as HOONING.....
so, best to ride a push bike if You live in Western Australia...lol
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
actually My Wife tells Me all the time...
"the limit is 100 KMH and its illegal to do 80 KMH..."
but I tell Her its the speed limit.... not how fast you have to drive...
and I save a lot of money on petrol doing 80 instead of 100 KMH...
although I don't sit on 80 if there is traffic behind Me...
Lee
PS: I need one of those PMG kombi van signs
"Maximum speed is 80KMH"
I think theirs was 50MPH ?? or maybe 40 MPH????
LEE
Gee I thought I got caught up behind a tractor on the outskirts of Scone the other day, but it was just Lee.
I think your Giving VW's a Bad name lee only going 80km and wanting a sticker to be proud and sayin its true my old little Beetle only goes 80km lolz
idn man but why go slow when you can go fast (within Reason)
From Dylan
"Man", what are you talking about? You don't even have your L's yet.
Anyone doing 10 k's or more under any speed limit should be banned from driving or stay in the LEFT LANE and have a curfew to be able to drive ONLY
between midnight and 6am!
Its ok for cops to do 45 or 50 in a 60 zone though
Lee, you shouldn't watch current affairs shows, they are all sensationalist rubbish. Yes, you can still get fined for driving too slow, but it very rarely happens. Neither the law nor it's enforcement have changed in years. My great Aunt once got fined for driving about 20km/h too slow down the Victor Harbour road in a Torana Sunbird. She was very traumatised by the whole incident of being pulled over by a police car, but I think it was probably for the best that she stopped driving soon after that.
If they want to enforce that, they'd better pay for a nice new 4th gear ratio for me ...or big wheels and a lift. Yeah I like the last one better.

Lee, a few years back a bloke was changing a CD (or tape?), while traveling up Catherine Hill, near Mittagong. He didn't just 'miss' the speed
limit sign - he ran into the back of a car, KILLING the driver!
The other car was a 'Veteran", and (in my opinion) should not have been on the expressway, as it was traveling very slowly, even for the truck
lane.
A lethal combination - inattention and driving too slowly.
By the way - 107 MPH is a bit fast, isn't it? Even in a 100 KPH zone
its plain and simple, KEEP LEFT UNLESS OVERTAKING, its about time they fine people for going too slow in the fast lane and also the slow old sunday drivers holding everyone up also cause accidents, im all for the new laws, i really cant see them fining $2000 though.

I've heard before that thing about max 80kph when towing, I personaly have never heard it so went on the RTA site to check, no mention of it I could
find at the time, maybe it has changed. A few years back I was in NZ and was pleasantly surprised to find that on any single lane (each way) road if
more than 2 cars where behind a slower car then the slower car indicated they were pulling to the left and they then let the cars behind overtake, not
sure if it's the law over there but initialy had me confused as I wasn't sure what they were doing. The keep to the left law is only in areas marked
80 or over as I understand it, though I personaly use it regardless of the posted limit, I have heard that it's illegal to overtake on the left, that
goes without saying on single lane roads but I am uncertain if it applies on multi lane roads, certainly hope not as I run the left hand lane all the
time on the F3 as it is the fastest lane, nobody else wants to use it.
The 80km/h towing thing was removed in maybe '98.
Yes you are correct on not needing to stay in the left lane at 80km/h or below. It makes a lot of sense because most multi lane roads at 80 or below
are in town areas. The lane on the left will usually have people pulling in and out of roads and parking spaces, so the right lane is the preferred
"express" lane. Also the capacity of one lane is often not enough on its own for peak traffic.
Having driven a truck through Shepparton multiple times I can tell you that you don't have the choice of lane. Also people are of the impression that
trucks can stop instantly and somehow magically avoid people driving around like a blowfly. You know the sort. All over the place.
Driving in peak hour Melbourne traffic is actually soothing compared to Shepparton.
I remember when slow vehicles used to pull over. I used to do it too when i had to drive slowly. Why don't I now? The proliferation of a-holes who go
out of their way to force the people who pulled over off the road entirely. last couple of times I did it I ended up in the grass and another time at
the end of an overtaking lane where it merged for a bridge, the person though it was a great idea to stay slow until the end of the lane then speed up
enough to block me from merging at the beginning of the f'ing bridge. Why are the people out there bent on killing each other now?

They have and enforce a minimum speed in the US, and it seems to work pretty well.
Their system you don't "have to do the speed limit"... you just have to do the posted minimum for the road. For example a freeway with a limit of
65 MPH might have a posted 45 MPH minimum speed. The signs actually say "MINIMUM SPEED 45" or similar and are just as frequent and prominent as the
speed limit signs.... often they're the same sign.
If you can't or won't do the minimum - no probs - just go on another (slower speed limit) road or you risk getting a fine, which from what I'm told
is the same as the lowest level speeding fine.
IMHO having a similar signage and enforcement system here would be a great idea.
Lee, do you want to sell that 2nd gear? 60MPH (97KPH) - WOW!
In fact how about the whole car? 107MPH (172KPH). Name your
price
Cheers, Greg

great get all the L platers off of the FWY , They are like a moving road block
You could teach a monKey to steer a car in a straight line.

I hope this is referring to HWY only, because if is also referring to city roads then I don't see what all the fuss is about.
What is the difference if a car goes a bit under the speed limit, when push bikes are encouraged on the roads with most doing 20 or 30 klms, and when
you do finally get around them SAFELY, they go up the left or right side, or on the footpath at the next set of lights and you're right back where
you started.
Don't get me started about them, but,..
Why do machine operators have to register their excavator to go from their trucks onto job sites, and bike riders pay nothing. Think of all the money
that is spent on them,.. Bike lanes, road signage etc,..
(I know it's an insurance thing for machines, But why shouldn't bikes have to be insured, I know of a few people that have been badly injurred by
being hit by push bikes.)
The keep left rule is more important, and correct indication on round abouts!!! in my opinion.
Both for bikes and cars.
There I feel better. lol

While I agree with the "not on the freeway" thoughts I do think that the "learn to walk before you run" line of thinking is very valid, I'd hate to think of what the result would be for someone still learning the basics of vehicle controll having to make a snap decision at 110 clicks.

"Today I was on the freeway out of Adelaide and an elderly couple in the right lane doing 85 with a semi in the left lane doing the same in a 110kmh
zone!
Thats bullshit in my opinion and they shouldnt be on the freeway
The last thing I want to do is offend anyone by my posts, but people driving under the speed limit by 10 or 15 kph or cant handle a car at the correct
speed should not be on the road."
that driver would NOT pass his P's Test in Qld for driving too slow...critical driving error.
I agree with u...I threatened to take the keys off my father because he drove home from DUBS at 85km....needed his arse kicked!!

I'll put my 2c in for what it's worth. The posted speed limit, under current regulations is the maximum speed allowable. If everyone drove at the
limit, and in the manner they do (most times on the HWY/MWY you could throw a blanket over the lot of them, as that is how close they drive to one
another) there would be many more accidents.
Driving on the M5 and M4 doing the speed limit or just under it, I have had people tail-gating so close that I can't see their headlights in the rear
view mirror (that is in either my X-trail or Beetle- doing 55-60mphin the left lane).
It's not so much the slower drivers that are the issue, but the manner of the faster, more impatient drivers, who after their maneuvering all over
the lanes, only end up a couple of cars in front of you after a few kilometres.
Anyone who has done any of the advanced defencive driver courses will know that distance between cars on the road is most important, and the faster
you go, the more distance is needed. I would like to hear from anyone that can honestly say they keep their 5 seconds between them and the car in
front.
Not only is it a driver issue, as most drivers couldn't handle their cars (even with all the safety features fitted) in a real emergency, but all the
distractions within the car (GPS, DVD, CD changing, talking/texting on mobile phones, looking at the person you're talking to in the car-front and
rear passengers, etc).
A lot of people have a false sense of security that their driving skills or their new cars with ABS, stability control, airbags, etc., will save them.
Not at 110km/h, or 90km/h or even 80km/h will it save them.
It's not the minimum speed limits that have to be posted or increased or fined, but the attitudes that need to be slowed down and driving skills
improved.
I may be old school, but the only real check and balance on the roads are the marked and unmarked highway patrol cars. They can either pull over the
slow cars, or stop the speeding maniacs that seem to be taking over the roads.
Yes, as pointed out it was 107KMH in an 80KMH zone
in the middle of nowhere.. not even a house...
I am always aware of driving any car but especially My beetle..
As there are 1000s of semi trailers and B doubles going up and down the New England highway and thru Scone...
I always speed up to 100KMH out on the highway so the trucks don't have to slow down... I always indicate to them when they can overtake Me... and I
always take My foot off the accelerator so I don't go any faster and they are on the incorrect side of the road for as short as time as possible,,
as truck drivers have driven a hundred kms or more and have another hundred or more to travel... I'm just driving at My leisure . lol
Don,
It is illegal to pull over and keep moving to let other traffic to overtake You.. where there is a white line...
it happens on the narrow country roads and I always pull over when another car approaches so they don't have to go off the road and shower My car
with stones...
[My grandson asked Me why i do this recently - His Mum & Dad don't do this...lol]
And I don't change CDs etc when in traffic or other cars are about... unless stopped... in traffic..
One thing I have noticed... is that many drivers do NOT try to overtake You until You come to overtaking lanes..
many young country drivers [??] don't seem to know that You can overtake without the extra lanes...
another thing... If I am travelling over 30kms from Home...
I do drive at the speed limit.... otherwise I would never arrive on time... lol
seeing there are not many 100kmh speed limits now.. most are 90 or 80KMH now on the New England Highway between Newcastle and Scone.. the 110 have
gone..
