Ridgee Didge Beetle back seat belts.

Hey everyone.
Am chasing some original rear lap belts for my beetle.what are the recommended shops around Australia,that will post and how much if possible.Just a list of shops that hold them would be terrific.

Wow, where to start with this question?!

First of all, what year is your Beetle? Most of them didn't come with rear belts until it became a legal requirement in 1971. Even though the mounting points were there on the body, it's likely that your car was never fitted with rear belts, hence there are no 'original' belts to put in it.

The second thing is that installing used (second hand) seat belts is illegal, and hence no shop or supplier should sell them to you. You might find some on eBay or perhaps this forum, but it's really not worth the effort. If you are planning on carrying people in the rear seat, then don't skimp on safety or compromise in the name of looks. Buy brand new seat belts with Australian Standards approval.

sorry i thought i mentioned that.its a 1970.And does have the original seat belts.I totally agree and i have full intentions of not buying second hand
i am restoring this car,i want them new.But new original.surely there has to be some shops that supply new rear seat belts? that are like the originals
and not a plastic remake?

Most vw shops will be able to help.

I got my retractables from George at classic, he had 3 point non retractable belts in all the colours of the rainbow.

Earlier beetles used to have the belts colour matched, by the mid 70s though they were all black and boring :lol:

You can get new belts with reproduction VW buckles overseas, but I don't believe that any of them are certified to Australian Standards and therefore you can't get them here.
