Administrivia: Backup at midnight
vanderaj - January 28th, 2011 at 02:54 PM
Hi there,
It's time for our infrequent backups to take place. This will happen at midnight tonight. We should be back up by about 1 am ish.
I'm actually doing something interesting this time:
Once a full backup has been made, I'll be establishing master-slave database replication between here and an offsite location. This will mean
that I don't need to shut down the main server (this one) any more as I will have an up to the minute copy elsewhere that I can shutdown whenever I
like to take the backups we need. The other good news out of that is that if this server dies for any reason, we will not lose any* of our data
There will be rsync between the offsite location and the main server. This will help replace any hacked files (if any) within a few minutes, as
well as maintain offsite backups.
thanks,
Andrew
* or at most a few minutes assuming I am taking backups on the slave at the time of the main server

Well I'll be.... was just thinking what a great site this is and how much I enjoy it, and you go and make it better again.
Thanks Andrew.
