mate - WAY too hard without seeing the RUST

Rust is the BIG killer - but for a ball park
$1,000 - for a dunger with goodish bits
$3,000 - for a "goer"
$5,000 - good original paint

Thanks for that , most helpfull , is this the one that gets rust in the rear upper quarters ?
I'll have a good squiz , I could see no rust when I had a look over but the car was locked so I couldn't have a grub around or get unerneath.
Just incidentaly the yard is asking 7750 samolians for the car, I'm not sure whether it's a  or a :spin:

Yes - L's are susceptible in the rear C pillar, but there are a heap of other places as well
Floor, A pillars, bottom of the rear quarter

For near $8k it would want to be rust free and a real healthy motor

Do a search in members rides for my L bug and you will get an idea of what that money will buy

Nope, they're absolutely dreaming at $7k! I wouldn't pay more than about $3000 for an L-bug unless it was 100% perfect like a new car. Incidentally, there's probably at least $2000 worth of 'bargaining room' built into the car-yard price. I went and looked at a 1500 Beetle once which was advertised in a yard at 5 grand. The dealer admitted to me straight up that if I gave him 5 grand for it then I'd be his best friend for life! People expect to be able to bargain the price down, so they're usually well overpriced to start with.

Buzzer is that the car at the yard on Ferry Rd? If so it's been re-sprayed. I looked at it last week, clean looking car but i didn't have a close look for rust though. i thought it was about $4g over priced myself.
