Who can recomend a good fuel pump

I have broken down a few times always having the same problem.....
the little pin keeps falling out of the fuel pump... 
Can anyone recomend a :
better quality fuel pump that this doesn't happen with or
a way to solve this ?

Are you talking about the pivot pin for the rocker arm between the push rod and the diaphragm for the standard type fuel pump?
If so, you have either lost the lock tab from either end, or you have one badly worn fuel pump body/pivot pin.
If you can find a good second hand pump body and put a kit through it or just buy a brand new sealed unit for about $60-$70.

Yes its the pivot pin...It was a brand new sealed unit 2 weeks old that doesn't have surclips...its a brazillia brand (bought from George at classic
veedub)

the shitty brazillian pumps out these days have no circlips to start with and as a result the pins often work their way out
I think I've got a couple of dead German pumps which have the pivot pins with the circlips on either end so they dont fall out.
I'll see if I can find one.

The same thing happened to me about 5yrs ago in the middle of The Herbie Parade at Lismore & had to push it for the last few hundred metres. I'll
try to find out what my mechanic did to it, cos it's still same pump.

I don't know if the old pins will fit the new pumps, due to the length of the pins and the thickness of the casting.
You could try peening the casting at the end of the pin, or at worst case scenario, araldite the pin to the body. This will not affect the rocker arm
operation.

If you get really stuck, i do have a couple of spare pumps that I have rebuilt that you can have. I have the slip-on type fitting pump. They have been
tested and work fine.

if its a beetle pump, just buy a sealed one with out the holes in the side , I never had a problem.

why dont you put a little 12v electric pump in it. that WILL be the end of all your problems. no moving parts to wear, pump is out of the engine bay,
never suffer from vapour lock again. do it once and forget about it.

I think it come from classic veedub, about $40

Why over complicate things? there's no reason to run an electric pump on a stock motor, a stock pump will even keep IDAs fed.
If you get vapor lock with stock pumps you got other problems.
Aside from being noisy, they need an electrical saftey cut out so they don't burn you alive in an accident, some carbs are real finicky about the
pressure they put out which then requires a regulator and most styles like facet ones dont stop the fuel flow when off so if you park up hill theres a
possibilty of a sump full of fuel if the needle and seat are bit iffy

one we are having all the problems with)...we phoned vintage vee dub & they stock another type....so have bought that one....hopefully that will
put an end to all this.[/size]
