we did the deal and i drove her home, over 1100km in 24 hours the old girl
she did it well until about 100km out from melbourne the g light lit up but we continued on, we got 4 km from home and she stalled, would not kick
back over, it was 2 am so i cabbed it home 7 bucks thats how close i was
i i went back in the morning and she kicked over, got her home

Best auto electrician in your area is Chambers Auto Elect, 564 Hawthorn Rd., S. Caulfield, 9596 6238, close to North Rd. He's a one-man business, so
he's not going to come to your place, but he knows VWS (I think he's Sth African). I've had hime replace my regulator and test/setup my battery,
very satisfactory results.
Since yours is an auto, I guess you can't push start it, so you'd have to try for a jump start (cables from another vehicle).
If you're stuck, I live near by (Brighton East), so you could contact me and I'll get you to Chambers one way or the other.
How much? alternators are kinda expensive ($250?), but it could just be your regulator; batteries are a commodity, probably around $120. All plus
labour.
