SA unregistered vehicle permit

Hi all,

Im going to adelaide on the weekend to checkout a couple of bugs over there (is it just me or beetles seem to be very expensive in Victoria...) Anyway, if i purchase one i was wanting to drive it back to melbourne on sunday so i was on the phone with the SA road authority today to try and get a permit faxed over to me & was horrified when they told me that I had fill out the form and apply for it in person at a customer service center..ofcourse, the centres dont open on weekends (im flying over saturday) & no i dont know anyone in SA that could do the deed for me

I called vicroads to see if they could help or had any ideas but the most they suggested was getting the seller involved..but I didnt really want to involve the seller as that would severely hinder my bargaining chances

Does anyone have any bright ideas?

Trailer. Find a mate with a biggish car which has a tow bar. Drive over to Adelaide. Get a quote for one-way hire of a car trailer from a national hire place, or if they won't do it then hire at home for the full weekend. It would be a good road trip.

In all seriousness, if you're buying an unregistered Beetle then it's probably not a good idea to drive it back to Melbourne anyway. Couldn't the seller just put some rego on it if the car runs okay? I would've thought that would be the obvious thing to do when selling a car.

The rego ran out on it early this month...i havent seen the car yet but it looks like a goer. I guess the owners didnt wanna shell out 600 odd dollars or whatever it is in SA for another years rego

Looking into a one way trailer as I type...

Can always pay 3 months rego on it,drive over then sort Vic rego out. Probably $150??
Thats what Ive done with cars Ive sold over there. Recently too

Hey thanks for that...might be a better option than renting a car trailer for $400!!!(have to rent it for 3 days)

Yeah, I just registered my Beetle for 3 months, it cost $177.
