of the people who complain how things are run by clubs on here, how many are actually ACTIVE club members in their respective areas??
im predicting a cant be arsed dominance in the poll IF people are honest
and fyi im in the vw drivers club qld and have been to 99% of meetings & helped out whenever i could outside of work for the last 1.5yrs its not
as easy as sitting on my backside on the internet but i havent looked back since.
step up or shut up.
educated opinions/advice are helpful, others are just irritating & kill the interest for the people organising.
personally when i looked in to it many years ago, the club i wanted to join wouldnt have me due to being modified and the club that would i didnt want
to be a part of. so this is my club but thank those that do organise the events.
its basically the same with my homebrew as well. im a member of several clubs in sydney but only turn up occasionally depending on what is happening.
feel free to post what your response was too....
I'd be happy to join a club, but club illawarra doesn't exist anymore and sydney is too far for me to travel. So there should be an option "willing to join club, but none close by".
well I can't be arsed mainly because a lot of clubs i have dealt in the past (not car clubs) seem to be too political. I have met some great guys on here and became friends with a few so i am happy to meet up occasionally or support outings like Berry and VW Nationals
What's with all the hostility?
I've looked at joining car clubs in the past, but from the outside all have seemed too cliquey and not worth the potential hassle. If I come across
one that is an exception I'll happily join.
not a fan of organised clubs, they remind me of unions and i hate unions, and the politics that goes with them, if everyone grew up and acted their age i may change my mind, but i doubt it!
seems like a bit of a vent going on here... and the way its started is usually the reason a lot of people have issues with clubs or formalised groups.
cause generally the vent comes indirectly and radomly and some are left wondering who or why.
i have run a club before. its hard work and respect to those who put in.
we live in Newcastle and we are members of clubvw Sydney, We don't mine driving to vw runs or vw shows cause FARK that's why we are car enthusiast
we like driving cars
We have been to heaps of places.

twoguns, just not a fan of people whinging about the nationals in the swap thread, without understanding whats involved i fail to grasp how complaints
of anything being unreasonable could be justified. which is why i mentioned the educated opinions/thoughts are typically welcomed at meetings &
such
with being a newbie myself ive been told stories from older people about politics & such but from what ive seen its changed into a more relaxed
social thing thats just enough to keep the scene promoted/running properly.
Ill also admit to previously complaining to friends that i didnt think things were done right, easy to say from the outside, once part of the
organising process you realise just how damn difficult it is to organise things, cant please everyone at the same time - very easy to upset the masses
though.
I hope its not being seen as a rant/vent but more of a point of view that hopefully encourages people who feel their opinions should make a difference
step up & actually USE them to make a difference.
i used to be a very active member of the WA club, (even achived member of the year) but suggestions and ideas were poo poo'd, anal old fashioned rules and regs were always thrown in your face. so i now take a back seat and go with the flow, my input wasnt appreciated so now i don't do input! i'm happy to attend the shows and odd run out, but as far as meetings etc, thanks but no thanks!
no worries mate.... i understand that it is very hard work. and it takes a lot to not only motivate people, but the need and ability to involve the people as well. its that desire for people to be invovled which encourages active support and participation.
Ha hahaha this thread is almost porn for me as I am a rude opinionated fascist who will tell you all what i think and to your face as well........
Car Clubs..... Well most of them are full of people whose parents should have been sterilised. they are the weird the ugly the fat and the misfits, my
guess is that they were never popular at school and that the car club has finally given them a way to socialise.. the women that tend to tag along,
well I have to look away for fear of feeling ill, they tag along as the car club is their best chance of being inseminated, as the guy is really into
his car. and could not care about women, but as he has left home he needs to replace his mum, chances are the dirty socks and undies don't really
bother him but in order to please his workmates he has to appear to have a certain amount of hygiene in his life
Why Join...... when any club will invite non members to any event everytime I reckon I could even bring a valiant to a bug meet as they just about
tolerate anyone.
Events.......really nice to go along and look at dubs I had my first splitty in 76 my first beetle in 77 and have only ever driven a VW .35 years...so
I like em...I f the events disappear oh well
I will still see them on the road I have not been to the nationals for years now I do go along to boris picnic and have since Fitzpatrick park when
ever that was..
I only stay for a little while as I am just too cool and beautiful to really associate with the car club lot
Cruise.........could not think of anything worse than driving slow with a lot of old cars
Trophies.......Hahahahaha FFS get a life
There you Go My opinion.. Barls will probably delete it Barry will tut tut me and Craig Torrens will PM me a hehe

Oh........ and i dont join in because when I did no one wanted to talk to a super beetle owner
lol.... no your one of the ones that actually has a sense of humour![]()
I've changed
would'nt it be a shit of a place if we all had the same views with me i call it compromise
The poll is a bit limited.
I like the VW club Vic, and they are nice people.
I am lazy and don't get involved in the club at all.
If yar dont want to join a club
WHAT are you doing on here then
Was very active in Club VW Illawarra, president for a while, got sick of doing all the work and people who only turned up when free food was on offer.
Maybe I was the problem, Volksday took off after I left.
Moved on to Wollongong Sporting Car Club, straight onto the committee. Have been there for 15 years. Of course there are different factions. There are
different factions in my household. Some of them are old traditionalists. We have the ugliest old perpetual trophy and insist on staying CAMS
affiliated to run the NSW hillclimb champiionship ... because we've done that since the 1950's. I dont agree, but thats democracy for you. Mature
people get on with it and realise its not personal to disagree.
Have on and off been a member of Club VW Sydney throughout the years. I'm not at the moment. I just forget to renew all the time. If it wasnt a 90
minute drive to the meeting I guess it would be easier.
Kembla Joggers, been with the running club for 5 years. Have avoided the committee but have landed the webmaster role. Its almost a full time job.
Probably seems a bit cliquey there but I'm not much of a talker at the runs. To me its a solo sport. I prefer to warm up and run by myself. After the
run I am dead and just want to recover. The regular people I talk to are fine and talk back.

haha to the above teaching from silver
wgaf really
so glad not be as self described 'as I am just too cool and beautiful'
soo funny stuff..
im currently in a few clubs recently in the vic club and in qld, well i sent my yearly form in a month or so late as i have been moving back here to
qld so im not sure if i was accepted?? but time will tell
i was very active earlier on in the vwdcq - brisvegas club scene, but life gets in the way of things you would like to be doing or not and moving
interstate doesn't help either..
a while back there was a bit of argee bargy and politicalness going on in the upper eshalons of the club and many peeps thought - what the??
anywho its great to see younger people getting involved in the clubs aspect as without clubs and the people in them whether super active or non
practicing,
its the real clubs that get things happening in the scene and helping out fellow members and community organizations and charities..
respect to the club members who put their hand up and get involved whether in committees or organising events,
i take my hat off to you..
+ i still much enjoy getting along to cruises n events when i can meet up with old and new dubbers and basically talk shite and have a beer or two and
just maybe learn a thing or two as well doing the dub thing..
thanks
therEs an old saying
If yar dont put something into a club or whatever
U DONT GET ANYTHNG OUT OF IT
U MUST BE INVOLVED
hey Dave, Silver's got you picked.......
fell off my chair laughing.........

Hey Louiiieeee
Silver hasnt looked in the mirror lately

and he forget to mention bald

Having a fair bit of experience with a few clubs (Dave you will agree I am sure) this is how it works, 90% of members dont care how it runs as long as
it does & they benefit from it ,5% do all the hard work & there is plenty of that. The last 5% just bitch about how the former 5% are not doing
it right without getting off their arses & actually contributing.
This applies for most social clubs not just car clubs.
Paul
nail on head Paul
STIDUB... can we have another option on the poll please ???
Something like "currently active but getting close to can't be arsed - I want to play with my car(s) more"

Agree with the you get out what you put in comment, and IMHO if the club scene (and shows) died off then Volksy's soon would too... so they're
important to have, but definitely not everyone's thing.
