Guys I have searched the forum for this answer as it must have been previously posted but I cannot find a reference:
What fuel should I be using in a 1964 Type 3 all original still 6V?
Two years ago I was told to use Shell V Power Racing but this no longer exists and being that I hardly ever drive my Notch and petrol has changed
again I am confused. After I drained my tank I put Mobil 95 Octane in and the car runs like a dog .. Tonight I put in Mobil 98 Octane - Mixed with
whatever was left in the tank and it seemed to run better ... I would never consider anything with Ethanol but would like your advice and experience.

Fuel has a shelf life of 2 months these days.If your letting it sit around try adding fuel stabiliser.
95 & 98 octanes the way to go, anything else is garbage! oh for those that are not aware, ethanol will corrode your metal petrol tank in no time!
Thanks for the advice - Can you share some info on the fuel stabilizer as all I ever seem to do is drain the tank and buy a new battery .. Now that I have a CTEK charger I have the battery sorted!! Thanks all
For small quantities go to your local mower shop for a one shot which will treat a 5 Litre can.
For larger quantities go to any auto store ( Sprint's, Repco, Supercheap , you get the idea) and buy a 1 litre bottle.
The one I have here is called "Lucas Fuel Stabiliser" but any brand will do. It will treat 32 gallons or about 160 Litres.
Just bung it in the fuel as you go and your fuel is good for 2 years. I don't bother with my club car, but anything laying around gets dosed.
All my 2 stroke tools ( about 15 at last count ) gets the tank drained and refilled from a seperate can of stabilised 2 stroke fuel when I am not
using them.

it basically a battery charger that does 4 stages. ie they charge up to 70% of max capacity with high current then drop to low current till 90% then
trickle till 100 and then have a float mode that maintains the battery. there are many different varieties and brands. i use one from dick smith and
it cost me about $100.

just unleaded. IE: no additive required, mystery solved. ![]()

95 is about right, 98 is overkill and actually loose a little power in mid to low cr engines. Unless you are running cr of 10:1 or more 98 is a waste
of money.
oh of course 98 is perfect with boosted engines 
I only run 98 in my Kombi . Defiantly no ethanol , don't get fuel from any woolworths servo . All their fuel has ethanol
in it even the premium.I only get 98 from BP or caltex , I've been told by a few people one of which works fir shell not
to use shell 98 in anything that's not fuel injected .
What about the lead?
Is there a need to run an upper cylinder additive with the unleaded fuel?
I add lead additive although I have a 1600 twin port I am not convinced that I need to I would be interested what others are doing
I have a large clear plastic fuel filter/trap, post tank on my van.
With each fill of 98 I get visible water trapped,with amounts varying,depending on where the fuel is purchased.
Low volume outlets produce more water per tank than high volume outlets.
I have inadvertently filled with 10% ethanol fuel with the result of no water being trapped in the filter.
Why? because ethanol and water are miscible,so maybe the water is being carried through the fuel system.
