no amount of googling will solve this problem. its dead and i dodnt want to just throw it away, have heard there are places to take them to be
recycled but cant find anything on the net

contact your local council, they can direct you to the appropriate recycling centers.

most garbage tips have electronic waste collection now. Also it probably would be a good idea to smash the harddrive beforehand.
