Sellers responsibility?

Hey guys,
Sorry for the naive question. Haven't done this before.
Are there any procedures I need to go through when I sell a car ? RTA requirements ? or do I just need to provide a receipt for the sale and the rest
is up to the buyer ??
Cheers.. Ben.

You and the buyer will fill out the RTA rego paper, the bottom of that paper is torn off (I can't remember who keeps that part but it says on the
form). Then give the buyer a receipt (hand written is fine) saying he has paid X amount for the car (provide car make, model, rego, vin and engine
number) you sign it, he signs it and date it. Keep a copy of everything and you post off your copy of the RTA rego paper.
That's all I've ever done.

Keep your copies because the registration authorities don't swap records between states.6 months after selling my father in laws car he got a
speeding ticket in QLD even though the transfer paperwork had been done on the day of the sale. The lady at the RTA was no help and wouldn't even
give a copy of the transfer that she had on her screen. From there it became statutory declarations, death certificates,so save yourself some heartache
and do the above. Also physically check that the VIN and engine numbers are correct.

You need to do what the other Ben has said.. in NSW at least...
and You do need to tell the RTA, but giving them the bottom of the rego slip [disposal of car] otherwise if they get booked by a speed camera the RTA
will think its Your car.. Your Fine..
so, its very important to do this...

You can do a "notice of disposal" on the web
Do that as soon as the deal has been done
http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/geared/cars/notice_of_disposal.html

Well thats even easier....
although the RTA want to know everthing to make sure You are the registered owner etc...
I paid for Rego on the RTA site yesterday...
took Me a while to find all the info they wanted.. to get an account on their website.... [free account]
will be much easier from here on.. lol
cheers
