i just picked up a set of stainless steel trims that came off a 58 beetle.they are supposidly ment to go on both sides and show a second color.there are 6 pieces short and long and they look exactly like the normal vw chrome trim strips exept they are curved.i got them off an ebayer when i picked up a set of hubcaps i won he threw them in for an extra $50.ill post a pic in the morning but does anybody know if they are original vw or some sort of aftermarket thing???and if so what are they worth?any help would be appreciated!thanks

I wouldn't say rare Marcel, but different, and thus sought after. Apparently Dave Becker was saying they were a Dealer option, and therefore could be applied by the dealers..

Menangler - August 6th, 2003 at 08:16 PM

Thats right, fitted by the dealer, but made in Australia for VW.
Here is a pic taken in 1959 of a set.

They are rare.....and quite expensive if complete and in good condition.

Bizarre - August 7th, 2003 at 03:26 PM

"someone" several months ago was trying to get an early version of a "group buy" together to get some of these made

Damned if i can remember who it was - but he was quoted like $7 or 8 hundred

Wouldnt look any good on a super - a standard only thing i think

decked dubby - August 7th, 2003 at 03:33 PM

There are two types. One as pictured above and another which runs parallel 15cm below the original strip.

I have both.

Unity-28 - August 7th, 2003 at 03:42 PM

Dubbed, There are actually a few types (how many Im not sure) But more than 2!

whatnow - August 7th, 2003 at 11:51 PM

a friend bought an oval shell that was drilled for a flash kit. if it came from the dealer that way or they were fitted after???

KDFking - August 8th, 2003 at 03:06 PM

hi,heres a pic af the set i picked up.

whatnow - August 8th, 2003 at 04:53 PM

i was just flicking through the samba and saw someone in brisbane had a set advertised for US$475 or some sh!t like that.... i think he's dream'n (double or tripple what i thought they were worth).... to be honest i really hope he doesn't get the price as i would like them to stay affordable for us here in australia.

volma1 - August 8th, 2003 at 08:00 PM

They are not that rare. There are still heaps around with them. I sold two different sets complete at the day of last year for less than $150 each(one set has 14 pieces and the other about 10 pieces). Might go and pick up another set tomorrow for $20 if they are going for big bucks now.volma

KDFking - August 9th, 2003 at 09:16 AM

The set on the samba was mine.I have just accepted an offer of $500us shipping inc and they are going to be shipped to california on monday.i know that that is a rediculous price but when i found out what they were supposidly worth i put them on this website and they are now sold(it took under 24hrs)i was going to put them on my bug but didnt really want to drill holes into her.if you feel so strongly about it then you should sell your set in aus for 150au!!im sorry that i didnt offer the set on this site first but when i heard what they go for in the states i knew that nobody in aus would pay that much for them.so sue me for being human!!!!if you can get them for 20$ a set then buy them...

BenettonVW - August 9th, 2003 at 02:30 PM

Hmm.. Another sellout.

SPRINTSTAR - August 9th, 2003 at 03:22 PM

Leave him alone you hypocrite. As if I don't know how much stuff you've sold on Ebay.
Cheers,

lowdown - August 9th, 2003 at 04:00 PM

good luck to you KDFking.
remember everyone parts are only worth what people are willing to pay for it!! i know if someone offered me $20aus or $500us i know who id be selling it to.

KDFking - August 9th, 2003 at 04:01 PM

Firstly id have to say that i have been looking at this website for a few years now and i have just started posting. This is a good vw website but it will never be a great international vw website as benaton vw and a small handfull of members really do tarnish the australian vw scene by posting arogant and plain childish views.I have imported at least 10 fold more vw parts from countries like germany,America and even englang in some cases but do you ever hear them carrying on like a bunch of bitches day and night "people are raping our vws" or "all of our parts are being sold overseas".Well i have news for a small handfull of you out there, the reason that the parts do get sold overseas is that overseas vw enthusiests are willing to pay more of there hard earned dollers, and no its not a matter of there currency is better.I know people in the states that are willing to pay 3 times what a part is worth in aus but they are also working for $7bucks an hour(min wage). So benatton and others just like you please dont call me a sell out just because your a bunch of tight asses.Id like to finish by saying that im really getting sick of this topic and im sure that alot of other vw enthusiests from other countries are also. And id also like to apoligise to the enthusiest on this website for being abrupt but i think if this bizzare mentality continues australian vw enthusiest will get a rude shock in the future when they go overseas!

BUGBOY - August 9th, 2003 at 04:05 PM

Just think KDF you could spend that cash on some wheels etc for your ride.
OOOOOhhh thats right wheels here arn`t cheap so you`ll need that $500 to buy them and bring em into the country.
Good trade in the end hey.
Best of luck to you.
