Hey guys,
can anyone help me workout what year these motors came from?
1st no. KDA003418
2nd 3743435
3rd 1-1012371

1st no. KDA003418 - It's a rebuild with a new engine number issued when it was rebuilt - no way of telling the date from the KDA number.
2nd 3743435 - April 60
3rd 1-1012371 - March 55

To check the date of the rebuilt motor, have a look at the date code on the genny, coil, case (on genny stand), voltage regulator, heads, distributor. Serial number of the fuel pump and carb may also help. If a heap of date codes are the same month/year then it is a safe-ish bet.

Post a picture or 3 and we might be able to get close.

That's way too modern for me :lol:
I'd guess Nov 64, but Australia did weird things with numbers once we took over from CKD construction. I'll let those who know more about modern motors answer this one.

My source is from Progressive Refinements, which is reproduced here: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/bugchassisdating.php  Note that this is only for German production, so full imports and CKDs are ok but Australian made stuff may be different.
