Kombi Trailer?
Andy - August 10th, 2003 at 08:42 PM

Has anyone out there made the rear of a bus (73-79 model) into a trailer?
I'm contemplating it but would be keep to see if anyone else has done it?
It's only a thought at the moment, so not sure if it will happen yet. It would look cool though.

Had thought about it.....might be easier to use the back of a ute
Would be pretty heavy though.

There was a picture of a Kombi trailer on an earlier post, although it was the front half of the bus that was used.

Hey,
Thanks for all the info. The Pics are great.

Gary, I would love to get some more info, or pass on my e-mail address (cathrich@tpg.com.au).
That's what I had in mind, but was thinking of cutting it just below the window line. Buggy Brad also suggested putting the nose section on the front to finish the look.

i'll look for the web site, it had step by step instructions

dubcab - August 11th, 2003 at 08:34 PM

I have built a trailer from the back third minus the roof, of a 74 kombi. Its not quite finished but I plan on setting it up as a camper trailer with a swing out kitchen where the engine used to be ! We cut through the body work with a recipricating saw (beautiful clean cut) and welded a heavy duty draw bar to the torsion bar housing and main chassis rails. It has under floor storage and two outward opening doors at front.
Look for it on the road after Christmas, we're not giving to much away its a work of art.

I reckon you should get a bonus point if you spot a Kombi with a Kombi trailer:thumb

Should you wave twice:o

11CAB - August 11th, 2003 at 09:27 PM

Only "Glen" would wave twice.....:o

helbus - August 12th, 2003 at 11:23 PM

Any Type three trailers?

Starbug - August 12th, 2003 at 11:54 PM

Now those trailers truly are very very extremely funky!

Not only have you got the coolness of a kombi, but also the added worship factor of towing a kombi trailer along with it.

très cool!!!

kombi69 - August 13th, 2003 at 12:50 AM

Andy and all, those photos came from a site with a step by step, with photos of exactly how the trailer was made. I found it one night when i was looking through VW sites. Please, anyone, let me know if you find the site!
