Hey guys,
So me and a mate were heading up for a cruise to Port Douglas so I could give my new 165's a fresh run lol. So i'm going around a roundabout in the
right hand lane heading straight (north) and all of a sudden I get hit on the left hand side by a white van in the left hand land indicating to go
right (east) so I obviously see this big white thing heading straight for me so I tried to avoid it as much as possible but he clipped my left rear
fender
I pulled over and gave him a serving of the road rules and swapped mobile numbers but I forgot to get his rego. Dumb of me I know but I just wasn't
thinking at the time. Rang him as soon as I got home but his mobile wasn't turned on I really hope I manage get his rego ASAP!
So rang AAMI as soon as I got home and it's booked in for Tuesday, However the Cairns car show is next weekend. Unlikely my car will be finished by
then I think. Can someone tell me who sells the cheapest fenders for a 73 super and can get them up here express (by Friday at the latest)!!!!
Some pics....
Sorry to swear, but wouldn't that f$%^& piss you off. I can only image how you felt and I bet you probably felt like punching the bastard just
to make things a little more even.
Good luck with the repair job and enjoy the show next week, might help you forget for a little while.
Kev
Damn, I'm going to swear too.
What a F$%^& wanker. I agree with Kev, I would have punched the bloke dead in the face.
I hope you can source a guard ASAP to get to this show, other than that dent, your bug looks damn clean!
I was plenty pissed off!! Guy hopped out of his van and started laughing. I mean WTF mate?!
Oh man, see that changes everything.
Now, if only you got his rego, then we'd be able to find his house, or wherever the car was registered too.
Then, we could go and smash up his van...
But seriously, what a bloody wanker. To get out of the van and laugh, oh man, I would have lost my shit.
And he would have been shitting himself.
My mate remembers the letters but not the numbers of his rego. AAMI needs the full rego to do a search. Dammit!
Crap.
I guess all you can really do is keep trying to call that phone number he gave you and just hope he gave you the right one.
Call from a different phone number that you gave him however, so that he doesn't know it'll be you.
Just my two cents.
That's awful mate, nothing worse than drivers that don't care about other peoples property.
i was just thinking though, it was lucky it wasn't your door or body :-) hope you get it sorted mate!
shit! that sux. lucky its only the guard and nothing else.
Have you reported it to the police? Go to the station and report it! Get them to run a check on the phone number.
Where there any traffic or surveylance cameras that can be checked for footage?
Good Luck!
yep i concur with the above post
get onto the wala's asap
thanks for all the kind words and helpful advice guys. makes it a little easier to know there are other people out there who know what I'm going
through. Took it to the smash repair guys AAMI recommended this morning and gave him Mick Motors number to source parts (since it's an old car). He
will give me a ring once the parts come in and then it should be a 4-5 day wait to get repaired. At least it's still driveable and like you said
Ollie, lucky it wasn't the doors or body that got hit. It honestly could have been a fatal accident.
I will still be entering the car show as I have paid for it and I have had a few people tell me too. It will also be going on the dyno for a bit of a
laugh so hopefully that will cheer me up a bit. I'm not hopeful of winning a trophy this year however it will be good to clean it right up and let
people admire it even though it is damaged.
As for the bloke I'm trying to chase I will keep trying his phone number but as you say Calcool reporting it to the police may be an idea.
Hi
Bad luck, I hope it turns out OK in the end.
I fitted new rear guards to my sons bug when it was repainted, they are about 1/2 inch narrower than the originals, it looks like your tyres maybe
close to touching already.
You can identify the ones that were fitted to my sons car by the raised section between the bolt holes like they used to do on really early guards.
Steve
I remember when i got run up the back of in my 2 week regoed restored 68 by a dude in a poofy turbo capri, i flew out the door and roasted him he got back in his pansy car and locked the doors and used his brick mobile to ring the cops, they came and it was a mate of mine and they told him that he was lucky that i didnt rip his head off. i was a 18 year old 110kg second row angry young man! took 2 months to get it back and was not right but atleast it was on the road again.
I have a L/H /R guard if Micks can't get one, unfortunately it is yellow and in Taree.
So I went to the cops yesterday and filled in a report. Hopefully they find him. If he doesn't have insurance it will be taken to court. Would be
good if I can settle it out of court if possible. Today I cleaned my car right up for the car show this weekend.
I'm curious as to what other people would do in my situation. Would you still put it in the show or would you not bother?? Cairns only gets one major
car show each year (this one) and I have won an award the last 2 years. I have also entered myself on the dyno...just for a laugh.
Try using a private number to ring his phone, worth a try!

That sucks, at least it was a guard only, even managed to leave the taillight untouched by the looks of it
Did you take any photos at the time of the accident? Maybe you got his plate if you did. Just a thought. Good luck with tracking him down.
