Found another Bug ... a model I am not familiar with Help!
DUB64 - September 30th, 2011 at 07:59 AM

I am thinking of making an offer on this.

At the risk of the vultures swooping I have some questions about this model.

Parts?
The Sunroof?
Uniqueness v hassle of fixing repairing?
Long term value?

Would love to ask people to NOT buy it but I know the risk I am taking LOL

That's a European special edition known as a "Big Beetle"
Here's some basic info

http://www.sebeetles.com/big.htm

Don't believe the speil on the sunroof, it's not factory and unfortunately that kills the value of it in the eyes of a true collector.

Its a Euro spec 1303S so basically it's exactly the same as an Aussie Lbug 1600/disc brake etc just with the few "Big Beetle" features like wood grain dash, cloth seats, wider 5.5" Lemmertz GT rims and pin striping, so parts as easy as to get.

Looks like a nice clean well cared for car. I bet it has probaly had an easy life as well.

whatnow - September 30th, 2011 at 10:24 PM

plus it's viper green... (i think) not a common colour and imho the nicest they did at the time.

the roof could be a plus or a minus. if it was fitted in the 80's by persons unknown i'd pass but as it was fitted when new or newish by the og owner it is a whole other story.

I would be cool with the roof - it is fairly period.

My concern would be the vinly roof.
You cant check what the rust would be like .
If you could see bumps then it would be shot.

from memory the Webasto are a German made roof and were offered on Euro spec from factory, i've had a few over the years with them fitted and a few mates have to with no reall dramas that i can remember....

If u like it go for it, its a bit different but as said before nothing you couldnt do to another 1303...

steff.......

Nope, not factory, would have been done when the car was new at the dealership.

Same as me calling my A/C factory, alot of people actually do but it's dealer fitted accessory when car is sold new, they don't leave the factory with like it.

Metallic Moss green ;)
Bout one of the only colours you could order big beetles in.

Wasn't the other colour a metallic brown? Personally I'd go for it - one previous owner (an old guy!, got to trust em!;)), all near enough original, looks pretty clean and $6000 isn't a bad price either.

thats a great find, love the colors, love the period rag top, but its the wheels, far and few here. if you have the coin id grab it.
