Is it just me?
coletrickle - October 8th, 2011 at 04:33 PM

Is it just me but when driving your beetle do other drivers see you and think I must at all costs they must get in front of the Vw?I try to be a considerate driver but in the last 24 hrs I've had 3 encounters while driving.Merging onto the freeway which
my car does well on the idle circuit had a Toyota ute attempt to underpass that was a mistake, had a lady with a kid in a baby seat peel out from behind me an chop in front then turn left 100m down the road. And 30 min ago at the stopped at the lights I'm in the middle lane heaps of traffic behind me and also in the right and the left was empty and ended 15m the other side of the inter section.you could see 200 m down the hill to the next set of liights and a bus at the bus stop half way between the 2.I get the green the next set go red so nothing to hurry for.I'm in 1st glance in the mirror and see a Toyota corrola flying up the inside I proceeded to drive beside the Toyota towards the stationary bus he had to come to a complete stop wait for the traffic to pass he then pulled to the far right lane to go right at the second set of lights! What an idiot.

bajachris88 - October 8th, 2011 at 05:12 PM

Copped that today. :td:

When it comes to that crap, the best thing to do is just let them go and just shake your head. Can't fight stupid with stupid...

Ben386 - October 8th, 2011 at 05:59 PM

Nah its because you drive a VW.
I have it happen all the time in my Syncro.
The best thing is when I come to a hill, indicate, and pass them.
They dont expect that from a VW.

Although, I do notice that even though there is a different treatment towards you when you drive a Beetle.

It is a better treatment than you get when you unfortunately are driving a Commondore. Maybe some people have a pity for you, some have a respect

I was in a mates Commondore, and you are just another potato in the sack on the road. No respect at all.

It is worse when you are on a motorbike. Less people are in your way, due to your own road positioning, however potentially it only takes one of them to kill you, so the risk factor is much higher.

bugsandoil - October 8th, 2011 at 06:30 PM

I don't think it matters what you drive.
I to get days on the road where everyone just seems to drive like idiots for no apparent reason.
Hmmm,.. Maybe the moon does have more effect than I believe, after all it makes oceans go up and down.

h - October 8th, 2011 at 06:39 PM

nah I get that a lot in the 54
but when the little thing roars into life n rounds em up and into the gutter/shoulder the look on their face is well worth the near death experience without seatbelts..
but soooo worth it..
morons :grind:
on the flipside..
when in my lwb T5 all they see is 80 acres of white painted panel to take on n they ALWAYS back off
law of the jungle I spose

Gracey - October 8th, 2011 at 06:48 PM

I see it every day on my 100km daily commute in my Subaru, they just have to get past then I follow them for the next 20km or pull up behind them at the lights or roadworks etc.

But yeah it's worse in my Bug.

vlad01 - October 8th, 2011 at 08:52 PM

I get this all the time from ford territory drivers. I mean wtf? it must mean these kind of dick heads buy territorys ?

Was driving out near Pukapunyal today, pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Out comes a territory tail gating me when I am doing exactly 100 on windy hilly roads
and trys to pass the whole time. I am like f**k off and just roll you pos already.

Here I am thinking I am bad for letting my car speed up 5-10 km over down hills, then there is pretty much all the suv and ute dick heads flying up hills at 130 and cut in front of you just as you pass an off ramp and almost lose it cutting across the grass as they nearly miss the off ramp.

I mean wtf??? what wrong with these people???

lol I saw a old beaten up wb? holden v8 ute fly past on the tullamarine highway at close to 200km/h. Geebus hell! in a ute with a shopping cart rear end design.

I hope he dies, coz that is Darwin's natural selection just waiting to play out lol.

DakDak67 - October 8th, 2011 at 09:03 PM

I've just started driving my 67 kombi and i get that heaps, the worked 2276 gives the bastards a wake up let me tell you :)

Notch Nut - October 8th, 2011 at 10:46 PM

I had some idiot suit driving a tradies ute thingy being a smart arse in front of me one morning on the commute to work. Wouldn't let me pass and made sure that every opportunity I had to pass he cut me off and was being a prick in general. I finally passed him and he sat up my clacker the whole time.
He took real exception when I got out of my car at the intersection and stoved in his drivers door and gave him an earful for being a fuckwit. I'd have treated him no different if I were on my motorbike but the fact was he probably thought that some dopey VW driver is less likely to give him stick than a Harley rider. He just pissed me off on the wrong morning. Silly fool.

Prob kicking his door in isnt the right way to go about it but these pricks that think they are the only one on the road need a shake up. I drive lots of different vehicles from trucks to forklifts on the road and its amazing how often people yell and scream at me even thou i am in the right, helps when you get out and your 6 foot tall 115kg concreter! they usually wind up the window and drive off.

h - October 9th, 2011 at 08:03 AM

yeah a bit out there
I too ride n when those cock drivers do that sorta thing I just make room n let em go past
karma will catch up with em as they'll get pinched by the wallers, lose it into the curb or get there door stoved in at an intersection up the road
karma (individual results may vary) :)

Is it wrong that I get alot of pleasure out of playing with people like that?
Especially the balding men in their midlife crisis BMW, Mercs and Porsches etc

They're fun to play with cos they just can't handle having their pride hurt by an old VW

The Soccer mums taking round abouts up on 2 wheels in the 4wd that hubby just has to have are bad offenders too.

It's just you col

Notch Nut - October 9th, 2011 at 04:52 PM

I forgot to add that whilist overtaking that driver, he started merging into my lane while I was level with his car trying to force me into oncoming traffic (I had my foot flat to the floor to get out of the way in a stock 1600cc v dub). If I had kids in the car I probably would have ripped him out of his vehicle and made a proper example of him so I think in hind sight I was rather restrained.

Probably not the right way to handle the situation but hey.... How would you feel if some tool did that to your wife and kids or grandparents just for kicks? :?:

this map is based on the indigenous populations only, so, perhaps it could be accurate towards the indigenous peoples’ IQ. Every other map that I have looked at have Australia’s IQ hovering around 98

EDIT: Joel beat me to it.

+ 20 population IQ boost from Smiley and Joel for catching my lie.

It does seem to happen more often when you drive a VW. I have thought this for years and, although I used to get worked up about it initially, I have learned to expect it and allow space for the idiots to 'perform their stunts'... self preservation I suppose.

I'm sure it happens to everyone, regardless of the vehicle you drive. I find that when I drive my sign written company car that I become a target for idiots on the road... I suppose they believe that I have to allow them to perform whatever illegal manoeuvre they desire or they will complain to my boss about my behaviour if I protest... like my boss would care!

If you want to see stupid drivers, get behind the wheel of a truck. About a year ago I upgraded my licence to HR and I am so much more aware of other drivers now.

Just drive carefully and expect everyone else to do something stupid - that way both you and your VW will survive to tell the tale.

R :)

thebullfrog - October 10th, 2011 at 09:31 PM

P plater+ driving a stock 1500 beetle, cars just love trying to dash around me. I just let them do it. One day when someone trys to merge 3 lines to a exit ramp and they crash, i will say simple say about time, as they are forever trying to dash out in front of me.

Lucky Phil - October 11th, 2011 at 03:55 PM

I get that all the time in the beetle.
They see the old car and there is no thought involved. They just believe they should be in front of you and go around.
You can tell because invariably they slow down once they pass.
Best to have them in front of you, though, where you can keep an eye on them!

helbus - October 11th, 2011 at 05:54 PM

Driving a car is serious. A lot of people think it is meant to be relaxing like being in the lounge watching TV. iPod, phone, makeup, eating breakfast, dinner, dreaming, proving status, etc.

about 1-2 tonnes of death potential. The speed of the mass you are in control of is your responsibility. I hear on the news on average once a week about a child under the age of 10 that is seriously injured or killed by a car, crushed, run over, hit. I have become so much more sensitive to this type of death since I have my own children.
