Sydney catch up ideas
vvwbeetle - November 8th, 2011 at 09:27 PM

Hi all,

After last Friday night's catch up it has been discussed to make it a regular thing.
One suggestion was to come up with a name or some sort of identity for it.

The thoughts so far is for the first Friday in the month so
FFOM maybe
or
SFFOM(Sydney etc...)
Or
SAVDFFOM(Sydney Aussieveedubbers etc...)
Or
Add your suggestions

Also think of a meeting point.

Harry's at Tempe was ok and happy to go there again, it was unfortunate about the accident but are there any other suggestions.i would think it would be good to meet somewhere with parking, serves food,as close to as a central location as possible to suit all Sydneysiders.

Looking forward to reading the replies.

P.S. there needs to be a photographer for the night.it was great to see the pics that Ollie had taken and was able to share from last week.

Hi

I must say that I had really good time, I enjoy talking VWs.

What's the parking like at other Harrys? Maybe it could be moved around. The I believe one at Woolloomooloo doesn't have car parking.

Maybe a central contact mobile number would be useful, I know it would have been handy last Friday for people who may have been stuck in traffic to see if it was worth coming or not.

Maybe UHF two ways could be used on the cruise keep in contact with each other

If you aren't too fussy about the food, maccas usually have plenty of parking and you can easily nominate venues all round Sydney or wherever using them. For the record I have no affilliation with the golden arches

Harry's at Liverpool is huge. Last Saturday of the every month all the V8 boys turn up, great nights

Craig S - November 9th, 2011 at 07:03 AM

I think it makes sense to a have a rolling roster of about three venues. Tempe was good, (but a long way for some), Liverpool also works (but a long way for others), but if we had a third venue somewhere north of the harbour (perhaps Ryde/North Ryde area), then you have a triangle of venues, so at least one in every three meets isn't too far.

Of course there's always Dino's out at Glenmore Park as well.

vvwbeetle - November 9th, 2011 at 09:34 AM

Craig good idea of a rolling roster.

North -
South -
West -

That way the poo lice are kept at bay rather than knowing where we will be each month.

Ollie - November 9th, 2011 at 04:18 PM

How's about good old TGIF or we could get creative- "Der Erste Freitag" -the first Friday.

Someone mentioned homebush last week- thought that was a good idea, kinda easy to get to from everywhere!

Gringo_54_oval - November 9th, 2011 at 08:37 PM

Yo sup guys.

I mentioned Olympic Park in Homebush parking is endless and the lighting is bright and they have a good place

http://www.piccoloroma.com.au/  pasta pizzas etc...

after cruise in style to where ever.
I also like the idea of making the venue in different locations. :tu:

Paulc1964au - November 9th, 2011 at 09:07 PM

Liverpool would work for me I am pretty handy with a camera

esevwbits - November 10th, 2011 at 12:27 AM

I like that, it sounds good.

Homebush also works for me.

Kazandmyrtle - November 10th, 2011 at 12:03 PM

Moving it to 3 places sounds good to me. Also not too bad with a camera if needed x

t1 time - November 10th, 2011 at 02:27 PM

I like the idea too and would it be discrimatory to make it a Bug/Ghia only cruise nothing against Kombis but thay seem to be taking over!!

no1jc - November 10th, 2011 at 04:18 PM

3 venues sound good
Liverpool, Tempe and Homebush?
no buss idea mmmnnn could be a bit elitest , but if we did we could call ourselves the
"VW KEIN FETT" club

Craig S - November 10th, 2011 at 05:01 PM

I think we start to cause division if we exclude certain types. The more the merrier. As a SuperBeetle owner I know that in the past people with such cars were shunned as they were deemed to not have 'true' Beetles.

Also, just a note on Homebush, we can't do it there in December because the V8s will be there so all the streets will be shut.

Perhaps Liverpool in December and Homebush in January?

For what it's worth I'll bring my camera along. Ollie will have to remember his tripod next time though

What?!!No Kombis.Very discrimatory.

vvwbeetle - November 10th, 2011 at 06:38 PM

I think any vw is fine. If its limited people will not turn up.

The more the merrier I feel.

t1 time - November 10th, 2011 at 06:50 PM

OK one in all in ,sorry ,Im just a little "one eyed Bug eyed" yes the more the better.

vvwbeetle - November 10th, 2011 at 07:45 PM

It's ok only beetles turned up last time anyway. We just have to make sure the beetles are represented well each time.

So Craig has a point about the December meet.

Are we agreeing about Liverpool for December? If so where do you cruise to, from Liverpool?

BUG61N - November 11th, 2011 at 05:26 AM

Im in for the December meet, just name a place and im there!

Craig S - November 15th, 2011 at 09:03 AM

OK, this has gone quiet, so I'll kick it off again.

Der Erste Freitag

Harry's Cafe de Wheels @ LIVERPOOL

http://www.harryscafedewheels.com.au/Locations_and_Hours/Liverpool.aspx

Friday 2nd December starting at 6pm

Aim to head off on a cruise at about 8:30pm

People more local to there can perhaps suggest some cruise routes??

Apologies but I won't be there, it's my birthday, and unless I can convince the family to come for a cruise I'll have to skip this one.

patbot - November 15th, 2011 at 04:25 PM

Ooooh, I've never been on one of these but I'm a Liverpool local so I'll try to come along. There's also a Maccas, Oporto, and Krispy Kreme (for those of you who like them, I personally don't) amongst others near Harry's (for the hungry ones who want an alternative).

Paulc1964au - November 15th, 2011 at 06:51 PM

count me in

vvwbeetle - November 15th, 2011 at 07:29 PM

Please note a new thread has been started for the catch up in December.

Where is it?

Craig S - November 19th, 2011 at 11:00 AM

Glenmore Park

http://dinospizza.com.au/

It's fine for me (and the pizza is good), just a short cruise down the M4, but some of our friends from over east might find it a bit far

Perhaps if we had a western Sydney catch up???
