Where to buy 6V H4 globes?
patbot - November 16th, 2011 at 08:44 PM

Before I resort to shipping them in, which will cost the same as the bulbs themselves again, any tips on where in Sydney I can buy 6V H4 globes to suit the Bosch 7" headlights? I gave Vintage Veedub a call with no luck, will try Classic tomorrow, and Vollks, Supercheap Auto and Repco online catalogues don't have anything...

Make sure You have the correct base for the Bulbs...
Not many 6 volt VWs still about...

so it sounds like they are either the "common" variety 3 tabs bulbs only in 6 Volt?? H4

or the round based Bosch European type bulbs with the Large Wide Flange.. P45t from memory..??

that guy in Adelaide is the only one I now of... too...

For those of you running Bosch 7" H4 headlights with a 6v bug, did you have to get a 6v specific set of headlights, or do the bosch h4 headlights work for 6v/12v and it's up to you to put the right voltage bulbs in?
Sorry if this is a silly question, I've heard it's the latter but I thought I should check before shelling out shipping money on the wrong headlights...

Cheers

I thought they were all H4 s

but early German vehicles usually had the P45t Base
its a large round base with a locating nipple..

Late beetles had the BOSCH semi sealed beams with the P45t base bulbs...

Not as common as the P43t H4 bulbs..

Just an update for those of you debating - I pulled the bulb, it had the old R2 base which is apparently equivalent to 45T, so those of you in the 45T corner were right (for mine at least). Located a few sites online etc that do H4 6V's with 45T bases, will let you know how it goes. I don't think I should have any issues just slotting them in... I don't think relays/new wiring/headlight assemblies are necessary?
