People waving
Sammy - November 23rd, 2011 at 06:39 PM

Hey,

I live in the south of Adelaide and have noticed that people driving VWs almost always wave. I think it's great and have started doing the same thing.

Is this something that happens everywhere?

Do you see the kids do 'Punch Buggy' as you drive past.

I make sure that all of the kids at our Kinder and swim group all know what it is.

Most of the parents are not enthused about the idea though. Usually those that drive new plastic All wheel drives

I have seen a couple of kids do the 'punch buggy' thing :) I get a lot of young kids waving. :)
I always wave to other VW drivers. Someone did it when I first got my car and so I've always kept doing it.
It's such a friendly thing to do :)
I would say down south here out of all the VWs I've seen (a surprising amount), there's only ever been one or two people who didn't wave.

i wave at most older vws while on the road and so does the wife even when shes in her holden, she needs a my other cars a vw sticker

Punch buggy still puts a smile on my face after all these years.

To get to my folks place from mine I have to drive through the 2nd largest school bus interchange in NSW which at bus time has about 2500 noisy school kids standing around.

Seeing large groups of them punching each other never gets old

Oh yeah, a friend of mine that does alot of traveling around in her Kombi camper met some foreign tourists in her travels doing the same.
They noticed other Kombi drivers giving them the 2 finger Kombi peace wave.
They couldn't understand why everyone was getting upset when they did it, till someone told them to put their hands around the right way

Yep, can quickly get your head bashed in if you get the Peace Sign wrong!

One thing you will find is that those who don't wave drive a VW out of convenience, and those who wave drive one for the lifestyle and love of it.

You will even get waves and excitement from those not in a VW, it's a cool feeling knowing that what you drive is so admired and appreciated.

Yep, everyone definitely waves, I have been prone to waving to other VW drivers (no matter what car I am in) at all times of the day.

Seems everywhere I go I get a wave too, it's great, I guess it shows how much people love VW's. I get waves from other older car drivers as well.

I guess that is what happens when you're apart of a group of classic car owners, and boy is it a great feeling!

PS. I have probably waved at you too at some point, I guess you never know who is who on here! :P

Yes
its great to see people and kids admiring the ONLY car they have seen that day/week or month or Year that had a running board on it ...

and other people waving etc...

and the comments about a COOL car...:cool:

and lots of looks...

and kids love the herbie BEEP BEEP ...

and I just wave... never knew about the peace sign..
as that was a KOMBI thing.. IMHO..
