Vintage plates NSW
kombivw - November 24th, 2011 at 07:22 AM

Ok my Kombi which i have owned for 27 years now is gonna be out of rego next april and I want to fully restore it and use very little for at least a year, probably longer. Wife has a car now and I have a motorbike I use daily. So cant see point in paying rego when hardly ever used.

So wondering what is age to get vintage plates (mine is 1973 & original) and who do I contact. I still would like to be able to use it sometimes for nationals etc

you can get the RTA in NSW to hold the plates for you
if you are in NSW..

lee hes talking about vintage or club rego.

to get club rego which allows limited use of the car, it has to be done through one of the vw clubs. there are some threads on it in here.

MISS VDUB - November 24th, 2011 at 10:49 AM

Don't you also have to be a member for a certain time before being elligble for club rego?

t1 time - November 24th, 2011 at 03:20 PM

Yes some clubs have that rule ,and it is very good rule as some people have been known to join a club just for the rego and then are not seen again.

TBH I dont want the plartes anyway lol There my x's initials.

For the last 5 years I have only used the car 10 times a year on average, as I prefer to ride a bike daily. But i still want to be able to drive it at least 5 times a year and will never sell it.

I was a member of Club VW donkeys years ago but have not kept that up. So will that count towards time, if that is a pre requisite for vintage plates.

Any advice as to who to contact would really be appreciated . I use to have Camper Phills private email but that was probably 3 computers ago lol
