Where is 'The Orchard'?
psimitar - December 3rd, 2011 at 10:47 PM

So as I get the occassional Volksworld magazine I read an article of a Pom who knows this Oz guy who used to have an orchard full of VW, over 500 vehicles. Due to shipping to pom land there's meant to be only half of that left.

Anyway, I am intrigued if anyone knows where this mystical place may be so I can go see what is left?

In the photos it looked quite dry but that really only rules out Tas, southern Vic and north QLD.

Can anyone help a dubber go take a look at the VW grail?

Ta,
Mike

I don't read Volksworld, but it's prolly the dude near Canberra/Cooma. Been threads on here before, may need to search a bit.

Yeah drove past that place last week - quite a few dubs sitting out in the back paddock, along with 1000's of other cars. From memory its on the road halfway between the Snowy Mountain airport, and Cooma township, on the left as you're driving toward cooma from the airport.

Or,.. Is he meaning nicks property near canberra???

Was it called volks parts or something like that???

psimitar - December 4th, 2011 at 09:30 AM

Oh, there was a mention in the mag of the Oz guy being called Nick.

I also remember seeing a large field of cars from this lookout point just outside of Cooma some years back whilst travelling the area. Brother didn't want to 'waste' time investigating :sniffle:

The wreckers just out of Cooma is " FLYNN's ",
a family owned business, now owned & run by Wayne Flynn,
a great place to look through, many interesting old cars in there, not much left in the way of vw

On here the AVD topic talking about nicks place is called
VW Graveyard Thread Id: 84161 under Vagrant VW's.
(I don't know how to make a link to it. It's on the second page under Vagrant Vw's

Here is the link to Nicks Site.
His photo's are out of date,.. I didn't recognise alot of the cars from the photo's.
Nothing too early there the earliest was a few very sad looking 'elephant ear' bugs.

My advice would be to call him. It's by appointment only.

Nick has quite a few VW's but as said above, not much early stuff. He's a nice fella and also works on cars too, he's located outside of Canberra.

just useless half cut up stuff n superbugs

phantom - December 6th, 2011 at 09:11 PM

Nick has been there a while and eventually cars need to be scrapped, either they are too rusty or have been cut to pieces for parts and there is nothing usable left. He still has plenty of cars there if you are after a project.

psimitar - December 7th, 2011 at 07:55 AM

So he still has whole beetle there? a) be cool to look around and b) whilst looking I may find bit's I want/need :)
