Just do it,

Although I think it's a great idea, I believe that in most Australian states, you must run mudguards. :(

You could run it with close-fitting guards mounted to the hub though.

HotRodMatt - August 15th, 2003 at 08:17 PM

Cut up a good one not a wreck. It's much more fun.

No chance getting it on conditional rego tho. Already looked at that for mine. Even an early model is too young for a rod and too modified for vintage.

Even tho the rules say you can modify to period. They say a chop, panel removal etc is radical and can't be regoed for vintage.

RSI - August 15th, 2003 at 08:34 PM

do it, do it, doo it dont be a SCARDY PANTS:thumb:thumb:thumb

jenz58 - August 15th, 2003 at 10:40 PM

Same, just do it if it has rust and poor panels etc:bounce

Not like it's a rare vintage or anything, and hotrods are way cool:cool::thumb

Hmph, do we need to have mudguards here in Oz:jesus

I say, go for it.
If you live in Queensland you can register it and then chop it up otherwise you have to present it for constant scrutiny.

I like the Idea, if you cant chop up the worlds most common car because of its scarcity then what can you chop. Feel free, express your self through art, custom cars are art.
I think its a better option than making a buggy, Imagine how many beetles would be on the road still if no one had made any buggys out of them.

Nearly every type of car has its fanatics but they are always out voted by people who would happily watch a bulldozer run straight over them.

It Would be a sin in my opinion only if you were to chop up a good example that had made over 40 years on the planet being loved and cared for, to have someone kill it for entertainment, but I think that goes for everything, I cringe when I see people wrecking cars, funiture, houses and other similar things that have survived all this time to be disrespectfully killed {smash up derby ETC}If customizing a car that has been lost to the elements already gives it a new lease on life then thats great, after all its really just metal, Its the art and design of a car that we fall in love with, not just the material its made of, its often recapturing fond memories that we can link to a material object like a car.

Poor quality doesn't stand the test of time and it shows when you see there are more sixties cars getting around than 70s cars, {I think}
as the quality drops and we move toward a disposable, recyclable society, we all become nothing more than good little consumers, look at Japan, they are forced to buy a new car every couple of years because, although its expensive, its a lesser evil than keeping a decaying car designed to be recycled as chains and leg irons for the ones who dont conform to societies expectations.
So they are slowly forced to give up their sense of individuality and get on with the task they were born for, Making money for other more financialy advantagously inclined people. This is why a Japanese person usully fills their car with trinkets and bits of flair, Its like their version of customization, but they can at least pull it all out just before their car, which doesnt seem to need any repairs or be malfuntioning in any way goes to the wrecker to be cut up and exported or melted down. Usually making someone else a lot more money than what the car owner got for it when they sold it or gave it away.
Most however have conceded defeat and catch public transport instead, Look at Sydney, its going the same way.
I have friends in Sydney that are paper drivers, that is, they have a licence but only for identification, they dont drive at all.
They are totally reliant on the wobbling tower of civilization. If one cog breaks in this huge machine we call society then they are stranded, mind you everyone else would only get as far a one tank of petrol would carry them in bumper to bumper traffic before they sat down and wondered where petrol came from and how was it made, like a child in the city thinks milk comes from a plastic bottle that is plucked from an inexhaustable fridge in a shoping centre.

I often get side tracked and carried away when posting a message and consider deleting it, but although its out there given the original question, it still warrants a thought.
Yes I think people are like lemmings, and me too to some degree, but I am always trying to recognise it.
If we had another War or monumental disaster, we as a society would be in deep shit because the people that have created the link from what we were a hundred years ago till now are all dead or getting there quickly, those left after a great disaster would have little to no hope of reassembling our structured society, who, today knows how to make elctricity from nothing, make anything from nature without power.
Some people will but they may be too busy trying to make shelter and gather food.
Look at how NewYork deals with a small disruption of power.
Anyway this is just my opinion and nothing more, but thats what was asked for
:D
In short, you said its rusty already so, Yeah chop away and make it awesome, post pics as you go.
I'd love to see it.
Cheers Tony
