At $42 per 5L, and assuming you have about 3.5L capacity.
If you change your oil every 3000 Miles (5000 km), it will cost about $1 per 170km.
If you change oil every 1000Miles, it will cost about $1 per 57km
A lot cheaper than petrol consumption.

The most expensive oil you can buy is the oil that is NOT SUITABLE for your engine.
Find the correct oil, then worry about the price.

alot of people go for price over additives etc.
I tend to go for oils with MIL grading.
Valvoline XLD classic is high rated and dirt cheap.. $23 regular priced

HPR30 is $38-90 in Scone..
I've seen magnatec for $46 and its $34 at BIG W unless its on special when its cheaper..
oil prices vary greatly from shop to shop..

I know a few people on here use PENRITE HPR-30 in their air cooled VWs...
I think its a 20w/50 oil so should do VWs OK..
but has a lower ZDDP content
even though the Classis light is made for old engines..
[not old worn out engines] more ZDDP
