I'm currently getting an ex californian kg together and there isn't one tear shed as far as I can see.
This is a purely emotional debate with no rational basis.
I say let the guy buy the car and enjoy it.
Imagine the stories he can tell about his new found toy!

it will be going home

I couldn't bear considering selling my car to anyone let alone someone overseas as I would always worry about how it was treated after all the work I have done. If I had to sell though, the decision would be whether I thought they would look after it rather than where it went.

Sorry but will you guys get over yourselves, yes AU cars are sought after in the world cause of a rust free(ish) condition but surely if someone is going to buy it, then spend $thousands sending it overseas, they are going to take great care of it, more than a "p" plater who's dads bought it for her

make sure that you have the money in your bank , before they pick it up to ship.

Yogie - December 20th, 2011 at 08:40 PM

What could be worse though is, if you did not sell it to Germany but to someone locally, if you ever did see it again there is the chance you may be disappointed with what you see. In the end, if you are happy that the person in Germany will look after it properly, that may be the best option, if not then hold on until you are happy with the buyer.

In the end, only you can decide which choice makes you the most comfortable. As Bizarre says though, it is like it is going home.

exactly, a friend told me he sold an excellent original 60 Beetle to this lady then only to see it a year or so later with dents in pretty much every panel

If You get the money You want....

then I would sell it.... regardless of where it went...

I have seen many pics of show cars then pics a few years later where they had been left out in the weather and had been misused showing the panel damage etc....

many people won't sell their car unless they know its going to a good home... RHD cars are also wanted overseas..

Be very aware, wait for cheques etc etc to clear and be very very careful of any scams, or to good to be true scenarios.

Do it! It's called a trade balance. How many people can remember when we had a trade deficent, 17% interest rates and high unemployment.
It's because we export that we have a higher standard of living! Take the money and run.

and yeah that is tru no1jc thanks for pointing that out

the hardest thing is seeing it go out the driveway

Years ago I sold my Formula Junior open-wheeler to an American racer [after trying here for over a year, with no offers]. He raced it well, and it is now being regularly raced in England. I have no regrets.

If you get a good price, and it goes to a good home, great.:tu:

thanks h i was thinking that last night if i worried about it going to be sold and never seeing it again i should keep it cause all my friends and family say keep it and if i do sell it ill be kicking myself for doing so in the future

If you've offered it for sale within Australia at a fair and reasonable price and no-one has bought it despite have ample opportunities, I say no-one has the right to judge you for sending it overseas (if that was an issue).

As mentioned above, if you decide to sell it, I dare say the new owner is going to take good care of it due to the expense of importing (to Germany) and the fact there are ample ovals to choose from there already.

I turned down an offer from UK on my first beetle as I thought I was doing the 'right thing' only for it to be driven into the ground by the young guy who bought it.

All the best with your decision
