Sydney M4 Breakdown - RANT!
Kazandmyrtle - January 10th, 2012 at 06:01 PM

okay need to rant and no one home to listen to me:

I've just spent an hour on the M4 hard shoulder and not one person stopped......is it just me or is that rude?

I was driving home in my Golf, around rush hour and the guard under the engine dropped down and started scrapping on the floor. I pulled over as i couldn't drive with it like this. Got out and climbed under, i tried to lift it back up but due to a shoulder injury and spazzy hand with no feeling just couldn't get the angle on it. Plus its lowered (told you all lowered was a bad idea :-p).

Anyway after a bit of time on the ground under the engine I finally gave up. I went and stood behind the barrier. I was there for over an hour and not one person in crawling rush hour traffic pulled over to ask if they could help or if anything was wrong.

Now, i understand not everyone has mechanical skills but surely if you see a woman on the side of the road (or a man to think of it) you'd pull over and see if you could help?

In the last 2 years i've stopped 4 times to help others broken down, even with my spaz hand. In the end a friend turned up in his truck and fixed but i thinking i'm loosing faith in strangers.

Rant over - Thanks
x

Hi guys,
I guess it depends when and were you are. Last week after midnight I pulled over into our local servo, closed by then of course, to adjust something underneath the bonnet. Within seconds are car came by, stopped, and the bloke asked if I had a problem and needed help. I am living in (semi) rural Queensland. Best thing about it was he looked like someone you would not like to meet in a dark back street and his old car run like shit. Still, I was mighty impressed. Help is out there, trust me.

If you ever broken down in the outback you will always stop.
Well that's one thing that realy surprised me, on a recent 15000km trip to and back from WA not one person stoped to ask if I needed help when I was stoped on the side of the road, as it happened I didn't need help as they were eiither stops to add fuel to the tank from jeries that I was carrying or simply changing a fuel filter because it had become cloged from dirty fuel, but noone else knew that and still noone stoped.
