62deluxe - August 17th, 2003 at 09:23 PM

I realise that this should really be in the events area and it's been posted before but the organisers and I thought a reminder wouldn't hurt and I think more people will see it here!
As many of you would be aware this year marks the fiftieth anniversary of volkswagen in australia.
This is your chance to celebrate that in a way that you will never forget and also to see some of the most spectacular scenery in aus.

62deluxe - August 17th, 2003 at 11:30 PM

how many of you mainlanders (Australians) are planning on coming?

VWCOOL - August 18th, 2003 at 07:44 AM

I knew nothing about it! But it's worth considering. Might be a good way to run-ina new engine...!:bounce

jenz58 - August 18th, 2003 at 08:56 AM

There are lots of people going from what I can gather from talk, or at least from Vic.

It'll be worth registering yourself in if you can manage the time off:thumb

There are a few people only doing the three days so they can get back too work

HotRodMatt - August 18th, 2003 at 09:01 AM

Would be a good trip ... but at least we have the Shootout on Sunday to keep us NSW folk occupied.

Robo - August 18th, 2003 at 09:02 AM

Too far away for me :cry
Rob....

62deluxe - August 18th, 2003 at 01:23 PM

This was what I hoped. Letters have been sent to most clubs but not everyone is in a club! It looks like being a great event, Shannons, Tas gov, City motors VW and volkswagen australia and others I've forgotten have come on board. There will even be a car transporter following the cavalcade in case of breakdowns for the trip south! Not that vws break down of course!! VW Aus will be leading the cavalcade with a New Beetle cabriolet.
Can't wait!! :kiss:kiss

byronbus - August 18th, 2003 at 11:43 PM

Jay_1965vw - August 19th, 2003 at 01:35 PM

I'm coming!
Just need to figure out how to book the boat with no credit card and no cheque book??

volma1 - August 19th, 2003 at 07:09 PM

Jay try contacting your local travel agent as they all deal with the Spirit of Tamania. volma. For those North Islanders with doubts about their vws making it to Tas, I travelled to Sydney this Easter to the Nationals and Bug-In in a 36 hp 6v 1960 kombi along with Peter and Pat in their 36hp 1960 beetle with each car doing over 3000 ks with no problems. volma

BenettonVW - August 19th, 2003 at 07:26 PM

We are coming.. If the Notch will get on the boat.. :)

Thinking Friday - Monday... hmm..

Need to talk to BLKBUG & co.. Dave, are we all staying together?

silver - August 19th, 2003 at 09:14 PM

Won't go on principle, seeing as how Shannons wouldn't insure my Kombi so I will have to wait for the Golden Jubilee in Sydney......

62deluxe - August 20th, 2003 at 12:17 AM

Well silver I hate to say it but Shannons aren't going to miss you but youu'll miss out if you don't come!!

volma1 - August 20th, 2003 at 08:09 PM

Jers don't you sleep. Find it difficult that Shannons won't insure a vw of any type. Try Brett Pitfield on 1300139006 or mob 0419289301 at Shannons in Hobart or Matt Brinsden in Melb. Shannons for insurance. volma

jenz58 - August 20th, 2003 at 08:20 PM

Jay, any travel agent and use EFT:thumb

62deluxe - August 20th, 2003 at 11:16 PM

Hey volmaism. Sleep is for those that have too much time! Actually I'm on arvo shift this week so getting up early isn't an issue this week. Will be next week though! 59 is at bodyworks this week so not alot to do.

duncombemu - August 21st, 2003 at 02:00 AM

We're going to be there. It'll be great to put faces to the people we 'feel' we already know (from the forum).:thumb
Regards,
Mark

lugnuts - August 21st, 2003 at 02:19 AM

Yeah the wheels can go on the Spirit for free but the arms and legs cost an arm and a leg.:o

Buger Gary - August 21st, 2003 at 10:11 PM

Hey Jeremy are you going to have a run up to our agm on sunday or are you working?
Gary.

62deluxe - August 22nd, 2003 at 01:25 AM

G'day Gaz. Would love to come up but girlfriend is down from Queenie and silly me promised I'd do some of that housey stuff!! :(
Haven't seen you in ages! how's the north-west?

volma1 - August 22nd, 2003 at 05:26 AM

Hey Lugnuts the fare over is as cheap as chips. $105 each way incl your car, cheaper than driving to Valla from Sydney and better scenery.volma

62deluxe - August 22nd, 2003 at 01:14 PM

See coming to Tassie isn't such a hassle!!
You mainlanders just have it too easy that's all!! So stop making excuses and get over here in Nov. or you'll miss out! So there.

Buger Gary - August 22nd, 2003 at 09:45 PM

Yes Jeremy, I find that to play with our toys we have to do the housey thing every now and again to keep them happy. We are all pretty good up here in the north.Working hard saving some spondulies for November.
Gary.

jenz58 - August 22nd, 2003 at 09:47 PM

Go here for the Tassie Ferry costs

http://www.spiritoftasmania.com.au/fares/melb_dev.htm

You can even book online to make it easy
:thumb

If you think the costs are high for accommodsation go here and use Youth Hostels and still be near the action

http://www.yha.com.au/hostels/search/state.cfm?stateid=5

Well it was worth a plug:thumb

I'm sure there are camping grounds etc

After being at Valla it is well worth staying were most others are though, much more fun:)

Remember to say you are with the VW group as they are going to have the cars together so they can drive off the boat together, so it is probably better if you ring rather than book online.
