Who can date a chassis number? I have tried a couple of sights and can't find what this might be, number is 10873256
Thanks

What is it? It looks like too many numbers for a Beetle.
Chassis no 1060926 31/12/1955 (from ETKA)

Doesn't make sense to Me either..

1964 models 5,677,119 to 6,502,399 German chassis numbers
then

1965 models 115,000,001 to 115,999,000 German chassis numbers

so.. not enough numbers
OR
too many numbers... ??? 10, 873, 256 ???

If it is 1 - 0 873 256 then it is May 55.
Most lists drop the "1-0" off the front of pre 1956 numbers.

Car looks like a '54 to me, I will double check the number, owner says it is a '53, but it doesn't have the starter button on the dash.
Thanks Guys

The number would make it a pre August 1955 and May must be close.

Last Chassis in '53 was 1-0575414 and in "54 was 1-0781884

according to Car of the Century.
