Bolt on rocker covers (name change)
Stanley - January 29th, 2012 at 08:39 PM

and has anyone used the Empi ally finned bolt on valve covers

*Changed the name so it fits more to the content of the thread*

Hey Stanley

I have them on the single cab and am happy with them. The only down side for them (as with all bolt on valve covers) is the nut/washer area provides an opportunity to leak. There is a great spot to drill and tap them for breathing. See my breather install recently. http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=76393&page=5
I was actually thinking the other day that this would be a solution for your valve cover gasket issues.

Thanks Marcus. I would rather a small weep than an Exon Veldez moment

Dak-A-Tak - January 30th, 2012 at 12:40 AM

you can buy local easy , and have them next day . I'd say most shops mate , even I may have some to sell.

Thanks Pete but was looking at some other stuff as well

From the pic of those valve covers the way the fins wrap right around it doesn't leave much room to fit a breather. Might need to machine/grind of some fins.

Anyone used them. Heard differing views on SCAT

And your thinking of using empi????????????????????

vwo60 - January 30th, 2012 at 12:26 PM

you only have to use the correct oring under the head of the bolt and there will be no leaks, i have them on all my cars with no problems, just remember to change the oring every few services, get them from a bearing service.

Good advice vwo60.

Not everything Empi is nasty. My billet air filter bases/tops are also a good bit of equipment.

I thought aluminium is light as..??

Scat can't be any worse than some EMPI products that aren't finished off properly..

do these use standard gaskets?

cheers

Hi
Once the Chinese get quality control... things should get better ??

at the moment I believe the people making this stuff has no idea what it does or where it goes...
so, they cannot make it better.. IMHO

ive got a CB set. with breathers on the side/ top. Not a good pic. I can get a better one when my motor comes back.
Just dont over tighten them like I did!!!! cuts through the rubber gaskit.

My comment is based upon owning and using the items mentioned. I don't have any love affair with Empi.
These 2 items do the job well.

The problem is the next ones you buy may not fit/leak/insert what you wish here. Comes down to product knowledge from the vendor IMO

vassy66T1 - January 30th, 2012 at 07:21 PM

U sold them to me :)

Stanley - January 30th, 2012 at 07:40 PM

Ha ha gold Marcus.

I've done my research and all brands have had someone who's had an issue for whatever reason.

G'day Stanley, we've fitted many different types in the past (EMPI, CSP, Scat etc) and as per above everyone will have their preferences.
We have the EMPI ones in stock:
http://dasrestoparts.com.au/empi-hi-performance-c-channel-bolt-on-valve-cover...

Whislt its hard to compete wtih the US shops on all products due to our freight/duties/taxes, we do try and stay competitive. Not too far off so cal when you factor in freight.

Just thought I'd throw out a sneaky plug whilst we are waiting for AVD to finalise our sponsorship/upload our banners etc.
Cheers
Al

vassy66T1 - January 30th, 2012 at 08:24 PM

You go Al

It might be the only 2 items Empi gets right but these 2 work for me

(All in good fun mr Berry )

Dasdubber - January 30th, 2012 at 08:28 PM

You're right Marcus, I tend to sift through their catalogue and choose what I know is reasonable quality and avoid the 'lesser quality' stuff :)

Craig Torrens - January 30th, 2012 at 09:46 PM

I have 3 motors with the Empi ones.....no probs at all:tu:

Dak-A-Tak - January 30th, 2012 at 09:49 PM

I forgot about c channel seal type , yes make's good sense now .
Rod has a set here , he was going to ring you .

dangerous - January 31st, 2012 at 05:25 AM

If you go for the C-Channel, make sure you get some spare gaskets!

Thanks Al. The sooner you get the banner the better. I forgot about you. Although your saved in my favourites now.

I've always bought local but was looking at buying a few other things but that was just to make the freight worth while. If I can get what i'm after here i'd rather buy local.

Rod sent me an email but work got in the way of calling him back. Will call today.

Thanks all.
