westi - February 5th, 2012 at 10:47 AM

Hi all.
I have been thinking maybe it's time to get rid of my 21 window 67 bus.
I know without posting pic's . My next question will be hard to answer.
But I am still Gona ask.
What are they worth.
Mine has everything , but It is an unfinished project.
All the body work is in primer.
I will be posting it up on here an eBay.
I would appreciate any info.
Cheers.
Brad

Not worth anything mate! best you just give it to me.... I'll get it out of your hair at no charge. Really though, its really hard to say without pics as you said, but i'd imagine it would be worth a bit, don't get shafted...

westi - February 5th, 2012 at 12:47 PM

Thanks for the offers so far.tempting and funny.
But we will have to wait and see.
I will take a few pic's today.
I just wanted an idea or ball park figure to start.
This car is up for sale, but I know that I am not supposed to advertise without the proper details.
Cheers

waltermitty - February 5th, 2012 at 02:09 PM

No pics or details could be a concourse restoration of a hacked up LHD shitbox?
What do you expect?
How much has it cost you ?
Its all in the details you have none??

Hey westie,I had a good look at your bus last time I was down your way,and she's pretty sweet and all the hanging pannels being NOS that's a pretty good start and it not a shiney so you have an idea what the bones of the bus is like.i know of some restored buses that If they came on the market you'd think nice bus but I know that they ain't.The Turkis 21/23 that came from mt tamborine a few yrs back I think sold at the time for 25?k if some one is serious about getting a good bus you must take the time to check this one out it.

L7back - February 5th, 2012 at 05:08 PM

Hey Westi, I'm in Revesby I'll come by tomorrow & pick it up! I'll give you $2000, sight unseen. Coletrickle.... your not helping!

matberry - February 5th, 2012 at 05:25 PM

Westi, I may have a genuine interested buyer for real money. When do you need it gone?

norbert - February 5th, 2012 at 07:50 PM

Westi, there were some on carsales, not sure if they are still there but completely refurbished they are very expensive - seen them between 70k up to 150k if it is a RHD.

There is one for sale on DSK which you can also look at. Even though the market at the moment is a bit tough I think for a real collector they will pay the money just to have one.

If all the bits are there, the rust repair has been done and it is in primer ready for respray and assembly and if it is a RHD my guess without seeing it is around the 35-40K mark at a minimum.

DSK I think may be a better forum to get an idea of the real value due to specialising on early model buses.

Bizarre - February 5th, 2012 at 08:16 PM

There is one on Carsales for just under 40G's

I know someone chasing such with cash ready to go who'd be interested too :)
let the bidding war commence
pics would be a good thing

westi - February 5th, 2012 at 08:36 PM

Thanks for the input guys. Wow that link bus above was a peice of shit.do u think they will actually get that kinda money.
That's why I posted.just wanted to know if there are people that exist and actually want them. And ruffly what they are worth.
Mine is proberly one of the best I have ever seen. That's why I bought it I guess.
And yes original Rhd with just about everything.pretty much paint and assemble.
I really appreciate the help guys , and I will post up some pics this week sometime.

Dasdubber - February 5th, 2012 at 08:40 PM

Sorry to see you have to let the samba go Brad....I know the feeling though :)

The market is a little flat at the moment but there is always demand for genuine RHD sambas. There are great deals coming out of the US at the moment with a lot of guys over there hurting quite badly, but the left hookers will always bring around 20% less than a RHD example of comparable quality. This is based on my observations over recent years in the aussie scene, and seeing what is on offer in the US over the last four trips over there (so just my 2c)

It is very hard to put a figure on especially not knowing the bus in person and the work that has gone into it. If its totally complete (no missing parts) then I would take a very rough guesstimate of around $35-45K....but depends on a lot of factors. To give you a comparison, Gerson (who owns Klassic Fab in the US - funky green repair panels) has just listed his barndoor deluxe (23 window) for sale with 2L+ stroker type I, Fuchs, disc brakes blah blah with all metal work done for A$65K (LHD admittedly).

And similarly a very well restored (Steve Hopkins resto) 21 window RHD sold for close to if not over $100K not all that long ago. But obviously depends what was spent on the resto. Theres not a lot of them around so demand will always outweigh supply (good for the seller). I would suggest carsales and other medium apart from just AVD and ebay which can attract people wanting something valuable for nothing (as I'm sure you have experienced already with PM offers). DSK forum is also another good place where guys with realistic money tend to lurk for splitties. Let me know if you need a hand to list it there.

All the best with the sale
cheers
AL

greedy53 - February 5th, 2012 at 08:41 PM

westy mate give it to me and i will mate it with my 72 think of the puppys we would have

westi - February 5th, 2012 at 08:43 PM

I would post some up now.
But I don't know how to put up the pics from my phone.
So u will have to wait.
Cheers again guys

norbert - February 5th, 2012 at 09:13 PM

Totally agree Al. In good nick they are worth a tidy sum of money. If westi is saying the one on carsales is a piece of sh%t, my guess is that its probably worth around the +50K mark.

As you and I have mentioned, I think DSK is most likely the best option to get a fair valuation. Good luck with the sale Westi and don't get ripped off.

h - February 5th, 2012 at 09:46 PM

... dont get ripped off?? wtf
erm in the real world it is worth what someone is willing to pay at the end of the day
it happens all the time 'everywhere everyday'
if your don't get what u think it's worth, keep it - simple
or
if you want it gone so be it - simple
it's not primary school to figure it out ffs
if you want fantasy lotto figures head over to kkult n snuggle up to the 'what a kombi is worth' BS
fookin comedians
peace out

norbert - February 5th, 2012 at 10:13 PM

Fair enough h. And if he does the right research he'll be able to make an educated decision of what its worth. Only worth what someone's willing to pay, true, and if enough people are aware that its for sale all the better.

Dont' worry be happy:smilegrin:

0 not = 0 = infinity

westi - February 5th, 2012 at 10:52 PM

Thanks again for sharing.
I had a figure in my head before I even thought about selling it.
And I knew that it will always be up to the individual ,what it would be worth.
But I just wanted to ask what others thought.
Cheers again.

vwo60 - February 6th, 2012 at 07:10 AM

Like all things, it is only what the market is prepaired to pay, some of the over priced cars have been on car sales for months.

Yogie - February 6th, 2012 at 07:42 AM

Considering what you have to spend to restore them properly, I would have thought that 23 window in the link above would be worth half what he is asking. Otherwise, you could buy one already restored without the hassle of doing it yourself.

If yours has all of the rust work done along with all the parts there, then I would think his asking price would be about where you would be.

ian.mezz - February 6th, 2012 at 06:13 PM

rodney from up the hunter valley.
no long ago sold his old stock brown bus no windows in the roof/ just a van for $70,000 it was for sale in the club vw mag, he was open to offers from $50,000 to $100,000

66doubledoor - February 6th, 2012 at 08:01 PM

remember yours is a 21 the others are 23s little bit of difference, try finding someone at the moment with $40000 to buy a bus then another 40000 to spend on it ,a bit tough at the mo

Geebus, I know I've been out of the loop for about 13 years but that's just ludicrous. The buyer must of been very keen or very drugged up or just got splash cash.....

I still can't justify some of the money people want for Kombi's at the moment but thats just me. I really should of kept all my VW's from many moons ago and put them in a shed and brought them out now........

westi - February 7th, 2012 at 07:25 PM

yeh guy's it is for sale.

i just want to take as many photo's as possible, and time is always hard for me as i am always silly busy.
i am busy and don't wish to be answering thousands of question about what is and isn't ,so i figuerd if i take heaps of pic's it might make things alittle easier.
i am already getting to many phone calls and offers as is.
so emai and pm will be the best for a response.
i will get some pic's up soon, unless i get an offer i can't refuse first.
