looking at some new wheels for my 68 as i have the "empi' style perfomace at present and the hit the guards with 2.5 drop spindles under braking.
the fronts are 185's and i would like to keep that size. I dotn really want to narrow the beam and when i asked a fair few people answered that if i
had the right offset it wouldnt happen.... so whats the right offset??? i am looking at the 914 style rims and i need to know if i can get them in the
right sizes..

with my experience I dont think you can put any 185 tyres with 2.5 inch drop spindles, i had to go a narrowed beam to stop the rubbing
thats what i thought paul but when i posted about narrowed beams i was told get the right offset so i really dont know....

All you have to do is work out how much more clearance is required to miss the guard using your current wheels as a reference, add that to your existing wheel offset, then look for a set of wheels with that ET, i had a set made to suit one of my cars, on my 69 convertable i am running a boxter 6' x 16" rim, ET 55, 195/50/16, dropped spindles with no rubbing.
Some spindles push the cars track out a little bit more aswell..making your offset problem even worse..hence the reason for most people going a 2"
narrowed beam..
My wifes '70 beetle is to be fitted with Empi Sprintstars in 15x5 and thanks to their average offset and looking to run CB spindles, I'm pretty much
gonna have to do a 2" narrowing of the beam..
the spindles on the convertable add a small increase in track, link pin spindles are different, why run wheels that obviously have the wrong offset, you would think they would be able to make wheels that fit, it is only a 5" rim, you should not have to narrow the beam.
