VW Drag Day Pictures
Ollie - February 27th, 2012 at 12:00 AM

Howdy y'all.

Thought I'd throw up some pics from the drag and show n' shine event on from Saturday.
I figured most had probably seen the usual ones around, so I went for the more 'epic' shots etc.

If anyone owns these cars and wants hi-res, pm me!

Ollie

Awesome photos Ollie!

What sort of camera you using?
What's your ISO and shit set at, exposure?

Also, did you do much editing or is it all just setti ga on your camera?

Freaking awesome photos though!!!

Ollie - February 27th, 2012 at 12:27 AM

Cheers Seb,

Just using a Canon 600D with a shitty 18-55mm lens. Really want to get a much wider lens! Grr!

To be honest I was running around with a film camera most of the day, so I stuck it on just the non flash setting and went nuts. Pollywaffle should be able to fill you in on what settings he was using as his pics came out really well. ISO 200 and F4.8 if I remember correctly, but I can't remember the shutter speed etc.

And yeah, I like to muck around in post with pictures - at the moment my philosophy is getting it in the camera, and fixing it up later. It's not a good way to think, but seems to work out sometimes :)

Are you still learning about manual camera stuff etc?

Cheers for the positive feedback

SebastienPeek - February 27th, 2012 at 12:31 AM

Awesome!

Yeah, I've got a Nikon 3100 that I picked up cheap in Singapore. Standard lense, got a fisheye lense though and a macro one too.
But I still haven't had enough time to get stuck into it properly!

What do you do in "post"? What is post anyway? I'm going to assume photo editing software but never heard of it.
Do you just adjust colours and so forth?

Love the clouds though Ollie, they look absolutely brilliant in all the photos.
Favourite photo would definitely have to be between the rat looking bug with the turbo an the EAT-911 bug.

Ah nice, sounds good man. Night shoots are always the most fun to do :) It's a good hobby to get into, especially when you can team it with cars.

Post = post production. I fiddle with all the colours, saturation levels etc, shadows, and then add filters if necessary.

The sky is a result of awesome weather, fiddling with saturation and also adding a few sneaky filters on top ;)

Yeah the Patina turbo shot came out much better than expected :) I'm glad you like the EAT911 one, I wasn't actually too sure about that one, but I'm glad you like it :)

I think my two fans are the Type III in front of the tent, or Rod Penrose's yellow drag bug with the sky in the background.

Drop us a PM if you wanna ask anything or just wanna chat photos!

SebastienPeek - February 27th, 2012 at 12:45 AM

Yeah, did a small night shoot, just need to buy a battery charger so I can do some more shoots!
Have a lot of places I wanna go to take some really cool night ones, just not enough time in the day, well, night!

Yeah, they're all fantastic. The sky's look awesome, and the shine on everything, amazing tinkering ;)
I'll give a go editing some of mine to get some cool effects. Just need to muck around and get the correct setup on my camera first and then go from there.

Will do Ollie! Sorry about hijacking the thread though, I'll PM you tomorrow after work!

Hijack away my friend!

Hear from you soon

Fantastic images you've managed to capture there. I'd love to be able to do something like this. I've got a Nikon D200 and have booked myself in for a 1 day course next Saturday. I can only use it on auto mode at present.

You have done really well, congrats. What editing software do you recommend?

Nick.

HappyDaze - February 27th, 2012 at 07:26 AM

Ollie, they are some of the BEST PHOTOS that I have seen. You have captured, not just the cars, but the scenes......that takes skill. :tu:

Cheers,

Greg

Great photos, besides the cars how good did the sky look.

Steve

shokwave2 - February 27th, 2012 at 11:43 AM

Yeah these pics are sweet Ollie. The cars looks sharp and the sky looks soft. I can't fault them. Awesome.
