as it suggests would these items look weird on my '79' bay window

imm looking at getting one of the older bumpers with the step attached to put on my bus and i want to know can this be done easily ?? also i was thinking about getting the side steps that go like in the middle of the bus for it as well but i dont know if you can fit these to a 79 model baywindow ?

any help is much appreciated :thumb

I've never tried it, but I'm not sure the earlier bumpers will fit a later bus. The later bus has the safety member built in across the front (behind the bumper) which will affect the mounts. The early mounts are unlikely to match the late bus, and the late mounts are unlikely to match the early bumper, so I expect that custom mounts will be a necessity. :(

The only other real factor involved is the width of the bumpers. I'm not sure whether the early/late 'bays' are the same width at the step, but this would be quite easy to check.

As far as looks go... who cares? It's your bus, do what YOU like! :thumb Besides, it's always nice to see something a little bit different.

i believe it is impossible. as far as i know the earlier bumpers mounted under the front of the bus, whereas there was a bulkhead built into the later ones that sticks out over the front of the bus. i believe that you could only attach the bumper to the underside of the bulkhead, in which case u could still see the bulkhead, or to the underside of the car, in which case i think the bulkhead may stick out above the bumper.

i reckon i might be able to "attemmpt" to make some bracketts for that...if not ill just cut that lip bit off (JOKING)

I have actually seen that done somewhere pyro, but I don't think I'd do it myself. I prefer the extra security of having it there.

If you're willing to go to the trouble, I see no reason why you couldn't make (or have made) some custom mounts to mount the older bumpers.

Does anybody know about the widths though? The older bumpers wrap around, so if the later models are wider at the step, the earlier bumper isn't going to fit (unless you widen it). I'm still not sure if there was any difference in width though.....

As for the side steps, I don't see why not. In fact, why not build mounts that bolt to the outriggers under the floor? :thumb
